Introduction

Sustainability is defined as the process through which the person meets their own need without compromising the capability of the future generation to meet their requirements. For the effective working of the company, it is necessary that they effectively manage sustainability so that future work will be effective. Already the resources are less and the companies must use them appropriately so that they can be wisely used and secured for the coming generation as well. The present study is based on sustainable development goal 2 which is Zero Hunger and it emphasises the end of hunger so that the world can achieve food security and promote sustainable agriculture and improved nutrition. The current study is based on Khalsa Aid which was founded in the year 1999 ad is a UK-based non-profit humanitarian company. The charity company provides support to the people and victims of man-made and natural disasters which take place around the world. The current study will outline a detailed description of the problem of hunger and its related challenges. Along with this, the detailed literature will be evaluated in the context of the issue. Further, the analysis of the theories into practice by Khalsa Aid will be discussed. At last different recommendations will be provided for the improvement of the problem of hunger.

Main Body

Description of the organisational challenges and scope of the problem

The problem in the current study addressed is related to the hunger. It is defined as the distress which is caused to a person because of lack of food. It can also be stated as the painful or uncomfortable situation or the physical sensation that the person faces due to insufficient consumption of dietary energy. In case the person does not get the right appetite then the health of the person is affected to a great extent. It is due to the reason that to live a better life the person must have the enough balanced diet regularly so that they can live a healthy life. When the person is not provided with enough food facility then their nutrition level is impacted and as a result of this, the overall efficiency of the person and their health is affected to a great extent.

Similarly to hunger, there is an issue which includes food insecurity which means a situation wherein the person lacks regular access to safe and good nutritious food (Chen, Shuai and Wu, 2023). It is a situation wherein the person does not have proper access to good food and as a result of this, they face the issue of hunger. In case the person is suffering from food insecurity then it will be causing issues to the person and ultimately it will lead to issues of hunger. Both the food insecurity and hunger are related to one another. This is because of the reason that when food insecurity is high then the issue of hunger will be more. More people will not be getting appropriate food and as a result, the hunger issue exists on a large scale. After the pandemic as well, poverty has increased to a great extent. It is due to the reason that post-pandemic unemployment has increased and as a result, many people do not have a source of income. As a result, poverty has increased and ultimately people have no money to buy the products. Thus, as a result of this, the overall working is impacted and ultimately the hunger issues have increased.

With the help of the situational analysis, it is clear that when this is high hunger and prolonged food insecurity then it leads to malnutrition within the person. Resultantly the body of the person lacks the required minerals, vitamins, nutrition and other required food intake. Thus, ultimately it negatively affects the health of the person and as a result of this the person's health worsens and they may also die. Also, there is a global hunger crisis and it is majorly impacting 10 % of the world's population. This crisis is majorly driven by factors like climate change, chronic inequality, conflict and many other different factors. According to the analysis of the current situation, almost 783 million people go to bed hungry every night (WHAT IS HUNGER? 2024). Also, a total of 45 % of child deaths take place due to hunger and related factors all over the world. Moreover, the facts also state that 3 billion people are not able to afford a healthy diet. As a result of this, it impacts the health and well-being of the person negatively and ultimately they do not have much food to eat.

Further, the situational analysis outlined that the majority of the hungry people are residing in developing and under-developed countries only. It is majorly due to the reason that there is extreme poverty and also there is lack of access to nutritious food and ultimately it increases the hunger among the people. The major cause of the increase in hunger is inequality. It is fundamentally because of the reason that there is an unequal distribution of power and it acts as a barrier to the people who do not have enough power (Atukunda et al, 2021). Thus, this inequality causes hunger and also it may increase the acute and chronic hunger which increases more. Along with this another reason identified for the problem of hunger in society is the disaster and emergencies. All natural and man-made disasters and emergencies create a situation in which the person is not in a position to effectively manage their work and ultimately hunger and food insecurity increase.

Further, it is important to analyse the issue of hunger because many of the people are facing it and it is necessary for them to solve the issue well. Countries need to manage the work well such that the overall working is improved and ultimately it will assist the countries to improve their economic condition. Thus, the future implication of solving the issue is very essential and this needs to be solved so that the overall development of the company can take place effectively.

Along with the evaluation it also analysed that the major challenge while addressing the issue of zero hunger is that there is a lack of funds. This is the major challenge for the reason that when the funds are not appropriately arranged then the resulting output is the. Without the funds, the program cannot be conducted efficiently and ultimately it can affect the working of the company to a great extent. For the NGOs and charitable trusts, funding is very necessary. When the funding sources will not be appropriate then the work will not be planned accordingly. Thus, as a result of this, the overall work will be affected and also the work will not be managed effectively.

Conceptual analysis and evaluation of adopted research

Hence, with the above problem identification, it is clear that the issues of hunger need to be solved easily and effectively. It is due to the reason that when these issues are solved easily and effectively then the overall development of the country will take place. Hence, to support this the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are provided. Within this list, SDG goal 2 relates to Zero Hunger. The current SDG aims at ending hunger and achieving security of food so that nutrition can be improved and sustainable agriculture can be increased. This objective of SDG emphasises setting a link between nutrition, food security and rural transformation. In case there is a balance between all these three aspects then the country will be in a position to maintain a good level of work and try to reduce the hunger issue in the world.

According to the estimates of 2019, it was seen that nearly 690 million people were hungry in that particular year which is nearly 8.9 % of the total world’s population. With the research, it was also identified that 144 million children under 5 were stunted and nearly 47 million were wasted. Also, malnutrition during pregnancy was affected and consequently, one-third of the females between the ages of 15-49 were affected by anaemia. Hence, the companies and people must work on this goal so that the overall economic development can take place. When the people collectively will work on managing the issue then appropriate solutions will be provided and as a result, the whole work will be improved.

In support of this, Arora and Mishra, (2022) state that reducing hunger is very necessary so that every person has the appropriate stake in good food. When people have access to good food then the lifestyle and standard of living of the people will increase. Ultimately it will result in the overall economic development of the country as a whole and will be assisting in better working. Foster, (2023) states that in the current competitive environment, many people are facing the issue of hunger and it is mandatory to remove it so that the overall development of the country can take place. Thus, by looking at the issue within the environment relating to the hunger situation developed the idea for conducting the present study. It is the reason that currently, many people are facing the issue of hunger and it is the responsibility of the government and other regulatory bodies that they must solve the problem well so that the overall economic development can take place.

Along with this, Brown (2021) supported that when the hunger issue is solved very easily, it will better foster the whole country's work. The reason underlying the fact is that when the working will be analysed well, it will improve the overall capability of the companies to manage the hunger. Thus, the different agencies, regulatory bodies and other authorities are responsible for the management of this. Sporchia et al, (2024) stated that the major reason for focusing on zero hunger is to end all types of malnutrition and chronic undernourishment. It is very necessary for the reason that when the appropriate measures will be taken to manage the hunger issues well. Also, compliance with zero hunger will focus on making the food production system more sustainable. Further, Umam, Umami and Sa’adati, (2023) stated that this is necessary because when the production system is sustainable then they will tend to meet the current need and will also try to save for future needs. Thus, people must emphasise the sustainable food development system so that the overall working can be improved. In case the agricultural and related activities are improved then it will foster the overall working capability and consequently the overall hunger issue will be solved better.

About this, Vilalta-Perdomo et al, (2023) state that many different types of organizations and charities assist in managing the different issues well. Armstrong and Drimie, (2024) explained that in case effective strategies are applied then it will foster the working of the company to a great extent. Moreover, one of the charities that is Khalsa Aid is working continuously on managing the issue of food unavailability. This is a charity organisation which majorly relates to providing shelter in managing the work well and trying to improve the overall work and develop the society well. This charity organisation works to help the victims of natural and man-made disasters by providing them with food, shelter and all the other necessary amenities. When it is not effectively managed then resultantly it creates an impact on the working of the whole society. Thus, for the issue of hunger, Khalsa Aid is providing the facility of the Langer for the people in need and for those who are living in isolated locations. This is because of the reason that when the appropriate facility of free food is provided then the people in need can eat it well. For this, they also do not have to pay money and as a result of this, the overall development of the country takes place.

In support of this Galabada, (2022) stated that when the free food initiative is undertaken then it will foster the overall development of the whole place. It is the reason that when effective food facility will be provided to the people in need then they can have access to good food. Thus, as a result of this, the overall working capability is improved and results in the overall development of the business. Moreover, when people get free food of good quality then it will increase their nutritional level and their lifestyle and living standard will increase.

Application of theory to address the challenge

With the analysis of the above literature, it is clear that sustainable working needs to be implemented. In case-appropriate work will not be managed then it will affect the efficiency of the business and the market image will also be affected. So, for the companies, sustainability must be focused. Many of the companies are complying with the sustainable development and also, there are some of the charity companies which are also working on the development of the general public and maintenance of the sustainable development goals (Vogliano et al, 2021). Khalsa Aid is a charitable company or an international NGO which particularly focuses on providing aid and assistance to people affected due to disaster areas all over the world. Concerning SDG 2 which is zero hunger, the company is also working for the reduction of the people living hungry. With the help of compliance with SDG 2, Khalsa Aid wishes to promote zero hunger so that the work can be managed well and society can be uplifted.

About the implementation of this particular goal, the appropriate food distribution must be made. Thus, in the context of this, Khalsa Aid operates in partnership and collaboration with other companies. It is due to the reason that when the proper collaboration is made then it fosters the working of the company and the upliftment of the society in a better way. For this Khalsa Aid has come in partnership with the World Food Programme for providing support to the school children in Yemen (Küfeoğlu, 2022). This partnership aims to deliver the support to people of Yemen and also to the refugees who have come from Ethiopia to Sudan. This collaboration is assisting the providing food to all the vulnerable children and the women who are not getting enough nutrition to survive a normal life.

Along with this, Khalsa Aid is also in collaboration with WFP’s Healthy Kitchen Program which assists the collective kitchens that are employing the vulnerable people community. There is a community running from which 80 % are women who are employed by these units and are employed to prepare fresh food for almost 10000 children. All the food is prepared by considering the local ingredients which promotes the local working as well. When the local producers and people are used then it improves the working well and as a result of this the local development also takes place. However, this will promote the local business as when the effective local products will be used then it will improve the overall local development which will improve the standard of living.

Moreover, Khalsa Aid is having a shared commitment with the WFP which aims at building a world without hunger. It is majorly helpful as the partnership aims to deliver people food and try to uplift the areas and communities which do not have the effective availability of food (Otekunrin, 2023). Also, Khalsa Aid states that feeding people with nutritious food is the core of working as many people are not able to get minimum nutrition. Thus, Khalsa Aid tries to assist such people by providing them with nutritious free food.

Along with this, collaboration, with WFP, Khalsa Aid is also providing the facility of langar which is very significant according to the Sikh philosophy. According to the Sikh philosophy, the langar is stated as the community kitchen within the gurdwara where food is served to any person free of cost. It does not define the person according to caste, economic status, religion, gender, ethnicity and any other aspect. It is due to the reason that Sikhism treats every person equally and in case any person comes to the langar they will be offered food without any discrimination (Valin et al, 2021). This similar langar is operated by Khalsa Aid as well for the working on the sustainable development goal 2. It is due to the reason that it emphasises giving free food to people in need and as a result, it supports the zero-hunger goal within the list of SDGs.

Thereafter, the literature also highlighted that lack of funds is also an issue for the working of the company. It is due to the reason that for the successful working of the charity and NGO, the proper funds must be made available so that it can operate well. Moreover, compliance with effective funds gathering is very helpful for the company in managing the work so that societal upliftment can be done well (Malik, 2024). Concerning the funding Khalsa Aid is supported by many different types of projects all over the world. Many big companies are providing funds to the NGO and also, they get donations from all over the world. Also, Khalsa Aid has provided all the details relating to the methods of donating like the bank account details, the cheque details, the currencies in which they take the money and other the other details required.

For the successful working of the company, it is mandatory for the company they appropriately manage the funds. It is due to the reason that when the funds are effectively arranged then it is supportive for the business to manage every activity well. All the activities of the company need to be planned and accomplished well so that objectives can be attained. When the appropriate allocation of the funds is done then working capability is enhanced. With further analysis it was also evaluated that having compliance with the effective fund allocation is implemented then it is helpful to the business to manage every planned activity well (Saputri, Andryan and Khodijah, 2021). Moreover, when the appropriate allocation of funds is done for every activity then automatically the NGO can work well. Hence, in the present case of Khalsa Aid as well the appropriate fund must be undertaken and evaluated well. Moreover, when the funds allocated will not be implemented appropriately then it will be affecting the overall efficiency to a great extent. For being successful it is necessary for Khalsa Aid that they understand the requirements and accordingly provide the budget for every activity of providing food to the needy people.

Moreover, there are many different actions which can be taken by Khalsa Aid for improving the position of people not getting food. It is particularly because of the reason that there are many different ways in which the company can try to manage and reduce the number of people who are not getting the food. Hence, for this another theory which can be applied by Khalsa Aid is that they can collaborate with other such NGOs and charitable trusts as well. It is particularly due to the reason that when similar kinds of organisations will work with a particular objective then automatically it will uplift society well. Thus, it is necessary for Khalsa Aid that they get into joint ventures or collaboration with other NGOs and charitable trusts who are also working in the direction of attaining the objective of zero hunger. It includes NGOs like Action Against Hunger, WFP and many other different kinds of organisations which are continuously working in the direction of reducing the number of people having no access to food (Hassoun et al, 2024). Thus, when the work in collaboration is done then automatically it will enhance the efficiency of all the different organisations. Furthermore, it will be improving the overall efficiency and the working capability. Hence, this is another action or theory relating to collaborative working which will be helpful to Khalsa Aid in improving the overall working capability of the business. So, it is mandatory for Khalsa Aid that they work in collaboration with other big organisations who are also assisting in providing food to the people in need.

Conclusion And Recommendations

Conclusion

With the above study, it is concluded that working sustainably is very necessary for the success of the company. When companies emphasize sustainable working then it ensures that the present needs are met and also the future requirements can be met easily with the available resources. The competition in the market is very intense and organisations must work sustainably. Then also many of the companies do not work sustainably and societal development is not effective due to the lack of free sources and other facilities for the majority of the people and they do not even have access to nutritional food. In many of the countries, many people go off to bed without food. Hence, it is necessary for the country they try to help such kinds of people. For this, organisations like Khalsa Aid and other NGOs are effectively working for reducing the number of people who are not having access to good food. The above study highlighted that there are many different strategies and steps which Khalsa Aid follows for providing them the sufficient food which is the daily requirement of many people. Also, the above study inferred that following the sustainable development goal is very necessary as it uplifts society and helps the company provide a better direction for the development of the whole country. Khalsa Aid is an organisation which works all over the world and provides free food facilities to every person in need. They are also providing the different Langar facilities and have come in collaboration with other organisations like WFP to provide food assistance to the people requiring it. Hence, with the help of the above study, it can be stated that providing food to the person in need is a good sustainable activity and this needs to be conducted by people very effectively so that the whole society can get equal treatment.

Recommendations

With the above analysis, it is clear that following the sustainable goal second is very necessary for the betterment of society. Hence, some of the recommendations for Khalsa Aid to improve compliance with food security and available to people in need are as follows-

  • It is advisable for Khalsa Aid that they must continuously research the market that where are the maximum number of people who are not having access to effective food. This is necessary because when the appropriate research will be undertaken then it will be improving the knowledge of Khalsa Aid and the proper assistance will be provided in those particular areas (Küfeoğlu, 2022). The effective research will guide the people of Khalsa Aid to provide the facilities within the area where the requirement is high. Hence, ultimately issue of hungry people will be reduced and automatically the aim of Khalsa Aid will be attained well.
  • In addition to this it is also advisable to the Khalsa Aid that they must have compliance with the effective monitoring and recording system. This is particularly because of the reason that when all the projects will be recorded effectively then the company will have appropriate data and proper records so that they can evaluate to what extent they have reduced the issue of food scarcity. Moreover, this recorded data will also be assistive to other NGOs and societal development organisations (Malik, 2024). It is due to the reason that when the appropriate record is present of which areas have been provided with the service then the other organisations will not cover those areas full stop rather they will get into other areas and will try to develop those full stops ultimately it will be resulting within the overall societal development and as a result of this the efficiency will be improved.
