Main Body

Background

Communication is the theme which is selected for the current study and it majorly relates to the population group of patients. The communication between the patient and the health care practitioner needs to be clear and concise. It is a practice which is very important to be included in the nursing practice. It is due to the reason that when an effective type of communication is present then it will foster the working better (Boehnke et al, 2021). For that patient, as well clear communication must be made. In case the patient is unable to communicate their condition to the healthcare practitioner the proper treatment will not be provided. Thus, clear communication must be present so that the overall development of the patient can take place. Moreover, communication needs to be clear on the side of health care professionals so that there is not any confusion relating to the treatment or any other concern.

Performing and summarising the search strategy

For the completion of the study, an effective type of search strategy must be used. The search strategy is defined as the structure within which the database is searched by using clear terms relating to the topic of research. In the current case, the inclusion criteria include only those related to the healthcare professionals and their communication. Within this, any of the other industries was excluded from the study and major emphasis was levied on only the healthcare sector (Hong and Oh, 2020). Along with this another strategy for searching the articles included the use of Boolean operators which included ‘AND’, ‘OR’ and many others. All these Boolean operators also help in finding accurate and reliable data. Further, compliance with the keyword search strategy was made which is assistive in managing and selecting the most accurate and reliable information.

Annotated bibliography 1

This research paper aims to assess the communication between the healthcare provider and the patient during childbirth. The purpose of the study included assessing the fact that how communication within the maternity section is present and whether there is any barrier to communication or not (Healthcare provider-patient communication: a qualitative study of women’s perceptions during childbirth, 2024). Here the interview with 30 women admitted into the different hospitals of Malawi was conducted. This interview (qualitative) was majorly focused on assessing the perception of communication between the pregnant women and the providers. The results of the study outlined that there was good interaction between the providers and patients. Along with this, it was analysed that also there was some verbal abuse and lack of respect which hampered communication (Auckburally, Davies and Logue, 2021). Moreover, some linguistic barriers were also faced and as a result, the communication was affected. However, the major limitation of the study was that it had a limited scope as it relates to only the pregnant women as a sample. Also, the findings of this study cannot be generalised to every patient as it particularly focuses on pregnant women. Thus, the study highlighted that clear communication needs to be present between patient and practitioner (Huang et al, 2020).

Annotated bibliography 2

Another article is the one which relates to the self-assessment of communication within the healthcare professions. It is very necessary that within the healthcare professionals there is effective communication present. The current article stated that although there is a high requirement for communication within healthcare but then also there is a lack of studies which emphasise addressing this issue (SELF-ASSESSMENT OF COMMUNICATION SKILLS OF HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS: A QUANTITATIVE STUDY, 2024). This study emphasised assessing the skill of communication among the healthcare professionals working in Lithuania and the total sample for the test included 1154. The sample was asked to assess their one skill by using the Interpersonal Communication Skills Inventory test. With the result of the study, it was clear that sending a clear message was the strongest skill and giving feedback was the lowest response by the population. This population included a wide range of people like a head nurse, physician, nurse assistant and all the other employees present in the hospital (van Rijssen et al, 2022). The limitation of the study included that it was only related to Lithuania and the finding cannot be generalised all over the world.

Conclusion

In the end, it is concluded that communication is very necessary to be clear within the healthcare sector. This is because of the reason that when this is clear then automatically the overall working will be improved. The study highlighted the search strategy needs to be clear as then only the accurate articles can be found.

Recommendations

  • With the above analysis, it is recommended that for improving the communication a clear process must be followed. In case it will not be present then the communication will not be clear. So a clear message must be used (Kelder et al, 2022). In case it is not included in the communication then the objective will not be attained.
  • Also, the use of clear communication technologies should be used. This is necessary as taking the help of the various communication technologies assists in making the communication better (Burgener, 2020).
