Within my overall experience, the leadership can not only about the authority; this can motivate others, create strategic decisions and work in the challenging situations. Throughout the level 5 and 4 studies, I faced different challenges which effectively tested my ability related to the leadership particularly within the various areas like as research, critical thinking and time management.
The major challenge which I have faced was related to the time management which delayed in meeting the deadlines. The challenges related to the time management includes the balancing the other responsibilities with the assignment and coursework while managing the work with the high standard. Moreover, the navigating the different business complex concepts within the operations, marketing and finance pushed me in order to increase the problem solving skills and critical thinking. The reflective essay will be based on the Gibb’s model; this includes the six stages like as action plan, conclusion, analysis, evaluation, feelings and description (Gibbs' Reflective Cycle, 2023). Critical reflection on leadership capabilities
Throughout the leadership journey, I come to know about the different weaknesses and strengths. According to the description phase, my particular strengths is based on the self motivation, been focus to gain the personal and academic objectives. It aligns with the transformational leadership theory, this focuses on the vision and motivation as the major factors within the efficient leadership. Moreover, based on the transformational leadership, my capability to communicating and work collaboratively has majorly helped me in effective discussions and group projects. The transactional leadership theory emphasised on the gaining goals via systems of punishments and rewards (Transactional leadership, 2024). On the other hand, my weakness was related to the poor time management, sometimes I find that I am struggling to meet deadlines and not providing enough time in the assignment, research while maintaining the different responsibilities. The poor time management has increased the stress and last minute rushes. I should boosts my capability in the maintaining the deadlines in the effective manner.
Challenging leadership situation analysis
A major leadership challenge which I have faced was at the time of level 4 and 5 studies was related to the offering strategic solution and analysing the case on time. Being a team leader, the key role was to assure about the synthesize findings, timely completion and task delegation within the presentation. On the other hand, managing my team with the workload showed to be overwhelming. The different skills levels and time constraints between the different team members led to lack in research quality. Focusing from the Gibb’s model, I developed collaboration and open discussions, assuring that each member can provide their strengths. Conversely, I faced issues in managing the effectiveness, as different team member need additional direction than the expected. I understood that the t leadership including accountability measures and clear expectations. I had to use the critical thinking which can assess the case in the effective manner. The overall experience showcased my need to boost the adaptability and time management.
The leadership is not just about the tasks management, it is about focusing on the managing motivation, demonstrating creativity and ethical standards. During the academic journey, I mainly aimed to work with the fairness and integrity, assuring that the each team member can effectively feel respected and valued. The ethical leadership includes the making the decisions which showcases the fairness and morale values (Kharadze et al, 2022). At the time of research project, I made sure that the contribution of each team member were effectively credited and developing the respect, trust. On the other hand, I realised that I face issues with the problem solving in the creativity. At the time of assessing the cases of business, I mainly tend to depend on the innovative solutions. This aligns with the transformational leadership; this develops the innovation and visionary thinking.
Moreover, my overall motivation fluctuates within the pressure, impacting the capability to lead efficiently. Based on the feeling phase, the lack of time management has increasing the feeling overwhelmed due to the major workload. Unable to allocated the time sufficiently and inability in the prioritising the tasks was result in the missing the deadlines. Due to unmanaged time, this resulted in the lower productivity, unproductive activities and time wasting has decreased and affected the overall productivity (Virgiawan et al, 2021). I have faced the issues related to the burnout due to the poor time management which lead to decreased effectiveness and emotional exhaustion. In order to resolve it, I required focusing on the adaptability and resilience, focusing on the inspiration. By developing my capability to manage motivation and think out of the box, I might boost my effective leadership within the various challenging situations. The leadership needs the effective time management which can boost the overall productivity and increase the quality of work among the team members. This plays a significant role in managing the team with the effectiveness.
Developing the leadership capabilities
In order to boost my leadership skills, I aim to emphasise on one developmental area time management along with the strategic thinking, adaptability as well. As per the action plan phase of Gibb’s reflective cycle, initially, I will focus on the effective techniques for the time management like as Eisenhower matrix. This emphasises on the effective management of the tasks with the appropriate time. By utilising the productivity tools and setting the effective deadlines such as Nortion and Trello would offer help in managing and tracking the workloads (Bhaduri, 2019).
Secondly, I would boost my capability to adopt different situations related to the time management. By engaging within the activities related to the extra curriculum like as consultancy projects and student organisations would offer the effective opportunities for practicing the various styles of leadership (Fernandez and Shaw, 2020). The theory of transformational leadership focuses states that the flexibility play a key role within the smooth and efficient leadership (Transformational leadership, 2024).
Finally, in order to boost my strategic decision making and critical thinking, I would effectively seek the feedback from mentors and peers. By effectively engaging within the business simulations and case study would help in developing the analytical skills. I aim to be adaptable and effective leader which can capable for the managing the different challenges with the effective solutions and confidence.
CONCLUSION
The leadership is one of the regular journeys for the adaptation and self development. My overall experience within the level 4 and 5 permitted me for understand my strengths like as teamwork and self motivation. While this is also showcasing the different areas which required to be developed, like as effective time management. The effective time management can be effective for me to complete the upcoming assignment on time and can meet the deadlines. The challenging project of the research has tested my ability about the leadership. By using the transformation and transactional leadership style has gained the effective understanding that how to focus on the leadership efficiently. The leadership is not just related to the author or developing informed decision, inspire and guiding. By reflecting on the different skills, I focus to be a leadership which might gain the collective success, support the each team member and work in the complex challenges.
