Developing the career in the healthcare is beneficial because it allows individuals to give back to their societies by assisting the patients and their families to get through from the challenging times. In the healthcare sector, I build my future as Adult nursing to provide better services and treatment to the people who suffer from the severe diseases. As an adult nurse, I performed the wide range of roles and responsibilities (Wheeler et al, 2022). Accordingly, I am accountable for the patients who are suffering from the various health conditions ranging from ailments and minor injuries, severe as well as long-term illness & diseases.

The decisions of the people to become adult nurse is right because the demand of this career will rapidly increase due to high rate of ageing population in the UK. The number of nursing and midwifery professionals is increases. In 2023, more than 703 thousand people were employed in this role (Yang, 2024). Adult nursing is the gratifying career path in which one have chance to make difference in the life of individual (Couper et al, 2022).

Role of adult nurse

As an adult nurse you need to undertake the large number of activities which are as follows:

Care planning: Under the adult nursing, one need to plan and initiate care to adults who are suffering from illness and medical condition. These plans are formed after identifying need of the patients and by evaluating care procedures.

Respond to emergencies: It is the crucial duty of adult nurse to respond quickly to the need and want of the patients (Roles of adult nursing, 2024). As an adult nurse, one needs to work closely with other professional as to known health condition of the patients.

Educate patients: Adult nurses are focusing on educating patients regarding their health condition by conducting healthcare session related to the weight loss, diabetes and quitting smoking.

In teamwork, the healthcare professionals are competent to communicate and collaborate to make sure quality, safety and efficacy of the care. Working as a team is beneficial because it aids in enhancing patient’s results, create effective healthcare system and reduce errors (Zajac et al, 2021). In case, the healthcare professionals are working together, so they are able to provide better and effective care for the patients which eventually positively influence on the overall health and well-being. In the context of HSC, teamwork and supervision is important because it aids in creating positive work environment as well as promote higher job satisfaction among healthcare providers. Apart from this from the given case study it has been identified that, Mrs. Smith is living alone and she suffered from severe diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and mild dementia. Due to poor health condition, she is not able to move from one place to another and she depends on others who help her in walking.

One day, during routine check-up, the primary care physician noticed her increased confusion and weakening health. Due to poor health, Mrs. Smith appointed various healthcare professionals such as multidisciplinary team (MDT), nurse practitioner, dietician, physiotherapist and social workers. These all healthcare professionals are working in group in effective manner in order to enhance the health and well-being of Mrs. Smith. At the same time, MDT evaluated her health status with the help of physical examination, medical history and social evaluation. To improve the health condition of Mrs. Smith, nurse practitioner also setting the system of medication management encompassing regular home visits and pill organizer. Along with this, due to mobility issue, Mrs. Smith is unable to cook proper food for her and she only depends on food so this make her health condition more worsen. For this, Mrs. Smith hire dietitian who created meal plan for her in order to tailor dietary needs. The therapist also helped her to do exercise regularly which improved her health. Performing roles of all healthcare professionals in team directly and positively impacted the health situation of Mrs. Smith. After taking care from all healthcare professionals in group the health and well-being of Mrs. Smith significantly improved.

The long-term outcome of teamwork and supervision of all healthcare professionals were that her medication adherence increased directly to 95%. With the help of all providers in team helped Mrs. Smith to enhance her nutritional status and gained weight. Furthermore, teamwork of all healthcare providers was beneficial for Mrs. Smith because she experienced not fall at the time of monitoring period. Due to effective care, the social interaction of Mrs. Smith increased and minimizing her isolation feelings. Apart from this, the positive short-term outcome of the given situation was enhance her outcomes, reduce medical error and enhancing communication with all professionals which eventually positively influence on the overall health and well=-being.
