Relaxation and mental peace are crucial for individual for maintaining good health. Spa is one such sources which aim at providing various meditations and treatment that helps in proving mental peace to individual. This report is based on the working of Spa and wellness sectors in UK. These reports will discuss of description of thermal and hydrothermal springs. Policies regulation and practices will also include that need to be followed within spa. This report will also provide information regarding the safety, hygiene and health regulation that are followed by Guerlian Spa at raffles.

Q1. Define and discuss spa and wellness, its evolution, history and potential trends.
Spa refers to treatment and measures which help in improving health, fitness and beauty of the individual. Wellness includes treatment that focus more towards improving mental health of person. This facility has been combines to provide treatment that aim at improving and enhancing both physical and mental wellbeing of individual. Spa and wellness refer to undertaking various activities that aims at enhancing both beauty and mental health of individual. Spa facilities were started in 1326 in Belgian where an ironmaster discovered an natural spring. There are various changes that have occurred in the spa and wellness industry. In ancient time spa was related to hot spring bath that helps in healing and improving overall health of individual.
After some time in western civilization, spa has been originated as place which does not concentrate only to bathing but also includes various other facilities which includes sauna, massages, dining and exercises (Callewaert, Ravard Helffer and Lebaron, 2020). In mediaeval period, emphasis has been paid towards travelling to different areas for the benefits that arises from different springs. In 20th century, spa was taken as an opportunity for establishing business that includes services such massages, facials and manicures. From 1980 the wellness concept in spa has been gain popularity that aim at providing relaxation and inner peace to individual. That has evolved from fitness and physical health to mental and social well being. The potential trends that are occurring in the industry are related to introduction of technology that helps in enhancing experience of individual. This includes services such as skin rejuvenation and micro needle therapies that improving satisfaction level of customers.
Q2. What are thermal and hydrothermal springs?
Hot springs are the ancient method of providing relaxation and massage to the individual. Thermal and hydrothermal springs are the part of hot springs that has created by heating up the ground water that is available on the surface of earth. This ground water is heated by bodies of magma or molten rock or by circulating faults to hot rock. There is slight difference between the hydro thermal and thermal springs which is related to the temperature and intensity of heat released by each springs (Derco, Romaniuk, and Cehlar, 2020). Thermal springs generally have temperature that is more than local temperature and if such stream occurs in volcanic areas may results in injury to individual.
These springs are also referring to as mineral springs as this contains variety of dissolved mineral within it. These minerals are related to 0.8% of acid sulphate, alkaline chloride, silica bicarbonate and carbonate minerals. Form ancient time emphasis has been provided on bathing in hot springs which helps in providing numerous benefits to individuals. These advantages are related to better blood circulation, healing skin issues, relaxation, pain relieving, controlling blood pressure, boosting immunity and improve mental health. Earlier people travel to distinct places to take benefits of hot springs this has leads to generation of idea that is associates with creating artificial hot springs.

There is huge requirement of following hygiene’s, health and safety measures within a spa business. As there are large numbers of clients that are visiting spa, there is urgent need to follow the entire guidelines and regulation that has been formed for the business. Employees within firm are exposed to various part of clients i.e. scalp, hair, toenails, finger nails etc. This increases the scope of spreading infection to them which can spread to other client through them. Improper hygiene measures will result in increasing negative impact on the health of individual results in reducing benefits of spa.
It has been identify that infection spread more quickly in warm and humid air which increases the scope of infection. This regulation includes changing water of pool on regular basis, providing slipper to avoid infection, using chlorine to disinfect, cleaning and suing soda foe wiping of floors. This helps in ensuring the safety and hygienic to the client and workers leading to attracting more customer (Gómez Pérez et al, 2019). It is vary importance to keep the clients within company safe as it will help in creating positive image in the industry resulting in improving overall profitability of company. This regulation creates obligation and pressure on the spa manager to fulfil the entire necessary requirement as non fulfilment may results in termination of licences. This regulation helps in protecting clients for any kind of malpractices and ensuring proper hygiene and safety to them.

Hygiene and safety policies and practices are in place and effectively implementing within spa. To marinating cleanliness within spa, maintenances employees have been instructed to polish shelves and clean oven filter that helps in reducing the changes of infection. Hydrochloric acid and hypochlorite is being used in clearing the surface of the spa. To protect individual from skin infection, hydrogen peroxide solution has been used to clean shelves and accessories. Identical bath kit is been allotted to each customer which contain new caps, napkins, wash cloth which helps in reducing scope of spreading infections (Mendonça and Pedro, 2021). SOP has been successfully implemented within the working of spa that assists in reducing chances of fire hazards.
Training and development session are conducted for the employees within spa that helps in creating awareness regarding importance of safety and hygiene measures. Employees are taught regarding their appearances and guideline are provided regarding their behaviours. Recruitment and discipline policies are also in place within the spa that focuses towards hiring and selecting employees that are best suited according to the needs of firm. Adequate discipline and conflict resolution polices has bend opted by firm resulting in enhancing the working and performance of the spa.
Q6. Describe the importance of compiling spa policies and practices and necessity of updating policies and practices in regular time interval. Explain the role of spa manager in managing and monitoring implementation of spa polices and regulations.
There is huge requirement of the spa business to compile with guideline and regulation that has been created and formulated by UK association of spa. This will helps in providing the guidelines and direction in which employees of firm need to work resulting reducing conflicts and confusion among workers (Pedron et al, 2019). This helps in attracting more customer as Spa that are involve in following all policies and practices creates a positive image in the mind of the customer. This helps in providing assurance to employees regarding fair operations and helps in attracting more clients.
Profitability and stability of Spa is also determined through properly and adequately implementing this policies and practices. Using these practices help in safeguarding firm from facing legal restrictions it provide information regarding the entire legal requirement that they need to accomplish. It is very necessary for company to focus and continuous monitoring the changes that are occurring in policies and practices formed by authority. This helps in identify the strategies that they need to implement to adapt to changing environment,. Non compliance with changing environment can results in creating legal obligation and impact on overall working of the centres.
Spa manager has to play variety of role that helps in effectively working of the firm. These includes managing workforces, formulating polices, Communicating polices to employees, provide measures to effectively implement policies, marketing of spa and management of adequate customer relation. Manger of the spa is also responsible for effectively implementing polices and practices within firm. Some of the measures by which manager carry out role are as follows:
Manager of spa focuses toward forming strategies after determining regulations (Smith, and Wallace, 2019). This assists in adequate policies formulations that result in compiling with set standards. Emphasis has been paid towards continuous monitoring action of each individual that assist in ensuring the practices are in align with standards set or not. Training and development session are also conducted by the manager that helps in effectively implementing all practices within firm.

It is very crucial for the spa owner and worker to work efficiently that assist in protecting and recording data in an appropriate manners. This helps in gaining the trust and confidence of customer regarding the spa and provides assurance while communicating their detail. There are various regulations that have been formed to safeguard the data and protect customer in the spa environment. This regulation helps in creating pressure on owner to provide fair services and eliminated any form of mal practices (Supeno, Mudana, and Murni, 2021). United Kingdom Spa association has provided a code of conduct which provides information regarding the practices and polices that firm should undertake in their operations. While gathering and recording data, client should be aware of etiquettes and guidelines related to safety measures. This includes creating awareness regarding various measures that need to be undertaken by employees. Spa in UK needs to align with regulation that is provided in GDPR which are concerning on protecting customer’s data (Principle of GDPR in UK, 2023). This compromise of 7 principles which focusing on fairness, transparency, secrecy, legal, reliability, integrity and adequate accountability in recording data.

There is high requirement for firm to focus towards insurance and licences within spa business. There are various techniques, devices and worker that need to insured by company for maintaining its stabilities. Types of insurance that are undertaken on Spa business involve professional liability, workers compensation insurance, general liability insurance, commercial insurance etc (Licensing requirement in UK for spa, 2024). As the spa involve activities that is having impact on the skin and health of the individual, UK government has necessity the requirement of licensing that will help in insuring the safety of the individual and workers.
Premises licences have been provided by the council for starting business that aim at exercises and massages. Special licensing requirement has been created for providing services such as chiropody, manicure, massages, electric treatment and sauna or treatment that involve high heat and lights. In most part of UK skin piercing, tattoo, and acupuncture facilities also require the licence that assist in; protecting individuals and safe guarding then form hazards. Needs of licensing has been raised as company are providing services that is having direct impacting on mental and physical health of customer which needs to protected from any unfair measures and practices.

The Guerlain Spa at raffle is being operating in London needs to follow the various employment, sales and product legislation within its operations (Szromek, 2021). This code has been provided by Spa association of UK which needs to be followed by all spas operating in London. Spa need to follow the employment law that focus towards minimum wage rate and protect rights of employees and employers. It has been determine that minimum 9.53 per hour should be paid to employees working in spa (Minimum Wage rate in UK, 2023). Firm need to marinating compliances with “Health and Safety at work Act 1974” that emphasis towards using products that are not harmful or dangerous to individual. Company need to focus towards fulfil all licensing and insurances requirement before providing all facilities to individual.

It has been identified it is mandatory to compile with health and safety measures that helps in reducing scope of spreading infection. Greasy floor, heater, infection are various risk that are impacting spa working. Guerlain spa has been situating in London, it need to follow minimum wage rate and UK employment legislation for efficiency operating within country.
