4.1 Findings

This portion of the paper states the insights that the researcher has gathered from the interview sessions conducted with the managers of the manufacturing company in the UK. The names of the managers and the different organisations to which they belong have been kept anonymous so that their confidentiality is maintained thus the organisations have been denoted as ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’, and ‘E’ for better understanding of the readers. Given below are some questions that have been asked to the managers along with the answers provided by them.

The details about the interview session are as follows:

Q 01: What do you do to educate on-site personnel to maintain the safety procedures and what do you do to provide them safety?

Interviewee 01 (A): Collaboration has been an effective means that made the workers learn about on-site safety procedures effectively. I made sure that I get to oversee the performance of the system and train the on-site personnel to gain technical skills so that they can deal with the emergency situation on their own.

Interviewee 02 (B): I made sure that I get to modify the goals and make the on-site personnel follow each and every process of using heavy machinery. I also trained them to detect the probable risks so that they can avoid getting into an unfortunate accident

Interviewee 03 (C): As it has been a challenging task to train the unskilled workers on-site, I initiated by making them work with the trained and skilled workers so that they can learn from their observations.

Interviewee 04 (D): I tried to set proper directions for the workers by having detected the areas in which they could improve. I also tried to allocate sufficient resources to them as this way they can feel motivated to gain the skills in a speedy manner.

Interviewee 05 (E): I worked on establishing a strong base for the on-site personnel by having made them learn from the basics. I made them follow a proper procedure to ensure that they can gain greater knowledge about the respective area.

Q 02: How do you investigate an on-site accident?

Interviewee 01 (A): I start by accessing the injury and provide any medical treatment like first-aid if necessary. Further, I make sure that I get to observe the accident scene and analyze each and every fact for which the accident might have taken place.

Interviewee 02 (B): I try to determine the root cause of the accident so that it can enable me to analyze the scene and the scenarios effectively. Further, I make sure that I get to implement corrective actions so that justice can be served to the on-site personnel.

Interviewee 03 (C): The first thing I do is to report the accident to the head office and get the worker to have the facilities that they are liable to get as per the policies of the company. After the situation is made to be under the control I gather information about the incident and take necessary action for it.

Interviewee 04 (D): I believe that by investigating an on-site accident I can take corrective actions in the workplace thus I always try to focus on the root of the cause. I also immediately report the issue to the management team so that the benefits provided by the organisation can be provided to the injured person.

Interviewee 05 (E): I always try to address the ‘Wh’ questions whenever an incident takes place in the organisation so that I can respond to the incident by having taken corrective measures. This way the satisfaction of the workers is also met.

Q 03: What benefits have the organisations gained with the existing safety management policies?

Interviewee 01 (A): With the improved safety management process the organisation has been able to cut the costs that are associated with the incidents and accidents that take place within the organisation. It has also effectively boosted the efficiency of the business as the on-site workers are able to work adequately without having the fear of life risk.

Interviewee 02 (B): The organisation has been able to increase its compliance with the introduction of safety management policies. It has also enabled the organisation to gain more profits and have higher productivity. This initiative of the organisation has made it gain positive PR with respect to its business.

Interviewee 03 (C): Safety measures taken by the organisation have made the employees get a productive and progressive work environment to work in. It has also made us have higher standards at the workplace while the workers have been showing greater interest to be a part of the organisation as they can further have the benefits provided by the safety policies in case of any accident or injury suffered by them.

Interviewee 04 (D): Since the company has been able to offer better safety management policies to the on-site workers the employee turnover rate of the company has reduced to a considerable level. The reduction in workplace injury has also proven the efficiency and quality maintained by the organisation in the business.

Interviewee 05 (E): As I have been able to take corrective measures by having accessed the root cause of the accidents the organisation is now getting to pay lower insurance premiums to the injured workers. It has also been a good factor for the organisation as the public image and PR have also been boosted measurably.

Q 04: Do you think that new safety policies are required to be implemented in the manufacturing industry of the UK?

Interviewee 01 (A): I believe that to lower the number of insurance premiums the organisation should implement more safety policies for the on-site workers.

Interviewee 02 (B): As this organisation has already added the required number of safety measures for the organisational benefit and for the safety of the on-site workers there is no need to add any other safety policy as of now.

Interviewee 03 (C): For the protection of the staff the company must incorporate the safety policy based on the reduction of physical hazards of the on-site works.

Interviewee 04 (D): I think that the organisation must divide the safety policies based on the intensity of the risks as that will be justified on the part of the workers and the amount of labour they put into the task.

Interviewee 05 (E): I do not think that the organisation needs to add any new safety management policy.

4.2 Evaluation and Analysis

Theme1: Workplace injuries and Importance and acceptancy of Safety Management in the Manufacturing Industry

In the manufacturing industries, the rate the workplace injuries rapidly growing due to the lack of safety that can impact business performance. In that case, all the organisations implemented the safety management plan. As per the evaluation of the findings result through the interview session it has been seen that managers said that, to protect the workers, the company must have a safety policy centred on lowering the physical dangers connected with on-site activities. This firm has already adopted the appropriate amount of safety regulations for both the organization’s benefit and the protection of its on-site personnel, therefore there is no need to introduce any further safety measures at this time.

The literary sources of Wami et al . (2019) found that workers’ focus was further diverted by the inquiry, which over time led to worse productivity and quality of work. There is a major impact on business results when employees and workers in the sector disobey emergency directives because of their mental condition. Some quick consequences have been caused by severe accidents, which typically result in substantial industrial destruction, as documented by Andersen et al. (2019), in addition to the small to medium-sized problems experienced by the manufacturing industry.

In that concern, from the evaluation of the findings, it has been seen that the managers from the five companies have said that, they have taken an investigation on the accident sites and employed the safety policies for the employees. By implementing safety management rules, the organization is able to boost adherence. Additionally, it has increased the organization’s productivity and profit margins. The organization’s approach has helped it acquire favourable PR for its company. Therefore, through this analysis, it can be said that workplace injuries have created a vast level of issues in the organisation's operational process of the manufacturing industry where safe management policies are necessary. Therefore, this result of the analysis has proved the first and second objectives of the research.

Theme2: Interrelation between the Safety Management and Business Achievements

There is a relation consisted between organisational success and safety management. From the evaluation of the findings, it has been seen that the managers explained they want to educate their personnel regarding their safety because they think that, their business must improvise a business performance. In this concern from the literary sources, it has been seen that Cheng’s (2018) study indicates a correlation between specific safety management strategies and fewer high-risk accidents. All employees should have access to a safe and healthy work environment, and in all regions, managerial involvement is essential, including the dissemination of safety data to employees and the implementation of assessments and safety checks to improve safety results and identify potential dangers through performance appraisal.

According to Enchill and Mireku (2014), the effectiveness of work safety and the safety of a company’s core mission are positively associated. A study of safety performance examines changes in related controls over time as a result of measures taken to reduce relevant hazards. Significant correlations exist between management commitment, safe work processes, safety laws and safety behaviour in an organisation (Vinodkumar and Bhasi, 2010).

In this regard, from the findings, it has been seen that the low turnover rate is due to the stricter safety management standards that have been implemented at the workplace. Workplace injury rates have dropped, demonstrating the company’s dedication to safety and quality. The company has increased its compliance with regulations thanks to the guidelines it has established for managing safety. The company’s income and output have both gone up as a result.

Therefore, from the critical analysis through the literary sources and finding results, it has been seen that safety management has a potent relationship with business success which has proved the third objective of the research.

Theme3: Effective Strategies for Safety Management

In order to meet the sublime, point of safety management in the manufacturing industry there need some strategies and choices which have been contextualised as per the responses of the individual in the interview session. In the fourth question regarding the safety policies the managers said that, For the protection of its employees, the firm must have a safety strategy based on the elimination of physical risks associated with on-site work. In this scenario, the managers of the various organisations in the manufacturing industry are required to follow a certain method so that they could get a deeper understanding of the particular field. In this regard, the literary sources of Ladewski and Al-Bayati (2019), it has been seen that they define the safety management process as an effective way to promote a safe atmosphere for the workers.

In this situation, the production units of the industry work efficiently to assess the risks that are likely to occur and result in negative outcomes for the industry and its employees. From the third question in the interview session among the managers it has been considered that, Since the organisation has been able to provide stronger safety management rules to on-site employees, the employee turnover rate has decreased significantly. The decrease in workplace injuries has also shown the organisation’s efficiency and commitment to quality inside the company.

Findings results have shown that, With the enhanced safety management approach, the company has been able to reduce the expenses related to incidents and accidents that occur inside the company. Therefore, from this perception of the managers, it can be said that the employment of safety management helps manufacturing companies. On this concern, from the literary sources, it has been seen that the safety management model is an essential factor (Su, 2021; Li, 2019) to incorporate the strategies so the risks of the employees are easily resolved. The implementation of this model and its theoretical notion is help to determine the factors of the different risks. Therefore, this evaluation has proved the fourth objective of the research.

Chapter 5: Conclusion and Recommendations

5.1 Conclusion

After having assessed the entire paper it can be asserted that the paper is primarily based on the safety management factors in the success of the business of the manufacturing industry of the UK. As can be asserted from the introductory portion that before the safety management policies were introduced win the organisations the on-site workers had been going through major health and safety issues. They have had to work having risked their lives on difficult on-site tasks without having had any liability on the organisations there have been working for. The companies further came up with effective measures and introduced safety management policies which facilitated the on-site workers to have the privilege of getting compensated for suffering from any kind of injury while working on the sites. Thus the safety management policies have been made to be effectively justified with the passing years.

The literary sources that have been taken into consideration in the second chapter of the paper explain that the safety management factors are of great importance for organisations as that makes them greater scope and benefits in the business. with the help of the safety management model, the justification for the use of safety management policies within the organisation has been put forward in the paper. The need of the UK manufacturing industries to look after the statutory requirements of the workers so that they can comply with the Code of Federal Regulations has also been put forward which explains the fact that the manufacturing industry needs to adopt the changes with the developmental changes that they have been going through over the years. The fact that the employees and the workers often fail to act as per the emergency instructions for having had disturbed mindset which impacts the performance of the industry on a large scale and impacts the productivity of the business that the requirement of the safety management factors has been of utmost importance in the manufacturing industries of the UK.

From the methodology and findings chapter, it can be ascertained that by having used primary qualitative data in the paper the researcher has paved the way for the readers to get a detailed understanding of the subject matter from the insights that have been collected from the first-hand sources. From the discussion portion, the conclusion that can be drawn is that the safety measures in the manufacturing companies of the UK have been of great importance as it has been of great help both for the workers as well the companies implementing the measures. The discussion portion of the paper also states the impact that workplace injury had in the manufacturing industry of the UK as it has been significant for companies in the contemporary world to maintain a good reputation in the market. Having incorporated the safety measures the companies have been able to improve their image in the target market and have also been able to improve the quality of service they got from the workers.

With the help of the discussions that have been elaborated in the above portion the relationship between the success of the business and workplace safety can be clearly understood as both the facts can be seen to be interdependent on each other. An organisation that provides workplace safety is likely to gain business success in an effective manner which further enables it to have greater scope in the business world. In order to reduce the accidental situation in the manufacturing industry of the UK and to ensure the work productivity of the workers, companies must try to incorporate adequate safety management policies within the organisations.

5.2 Recommendations

To recommend the manufacturing industry of the UK some factors have been stated in the points below which are required for the organisations to take into consideration.

  • Apart from the primary safety management policies, the companies must try to incorporate the measures that enable the on-site workers working on sites that are at heavy risk to have the facility to be benefitted from extra allowances like that of life-insurance facilities or considerable compensation amount so that the families of the workers get to maintain its survival in case of any unfortunate incident takes place.
  • As the primary aim of the manufacturing industry is to promote business success thus by adopting the Transitional duty policy the companies will be able to facilitate both the employer and the employee by having saved the leaves taken by the employee and make them the scope to accelerate and recover the claim having effectively reduced the claim cost.
  • The companies must also try to add Hazard identification policies which will ensure the company controls the hazards that are likely to take place in the workplace. It will further help the companies to create awareness amongst the employees and ensure that they get to use it as a training tool.
  • In case the workers get to face greater injuries the industry must therefore focus on hiring a doctor who would be present in the places that make the worker keep their life at stake to get the work done.
  • The industry must put to work the most skilled and an efficient member of the industry for training and development purposes as this is how they will be able to create a strong base for the company.

5.3 Future Research Scope

The researcher in this paper has tried to cover all the essential factors that were required to be mentioned in order to make the paper insightful and informative which will be of great help to future research scholars. However, as the researcher of the paper has taken into consideration only the primary qualitative data collection method some gap has remained in the paper which can be further fulfilled by future research scholars. Future researchers also have scope to explore the subject matter by having discussed the safety management factors of the companies unlike the one of this paper which is focused on the manufacturing industry.
