Learning Outcome 1: Be able to move and handle equipment and other objects safely.
AC1.1 outlines the main points of current legislation that relate to moving and handling.
For health and safety in care home I implemented wide range of current legislations related to moving and handling. Health and safety work act 1974 is considered as one of the critical legislation of the UK in relevant to moving and handling. This act is foundation for healthy environments and safe working practices. Implementation of this legislation is beneficial for me because it helps in creating the positive and safe working environment from which the employees feel secure. The key main objective of this act is to
secure safety, health and welfare of the workforces (HSE, 2024). For protecting the health and safety of the employees I also implemented Manual Handling Operations Regulations (MHOR) 1992 in care homes. By implementing this legislation I eliminate activities related to manual handling that is injurious and dangerous for health and safety of the people. For protecting the health and safety of the staff I provide all essential training and equipment. Implementation of this legislation in my care homes useful for me because it helps in preventing the injuries resulting from activities related to manual handling. This encompasses lowering, pulling, lifting, pushing or carrying loads. With the help of this legislation I am competent to make sure well-being of my workplace, promote positive workplace culture and minimize risk of injuries (HSE, 2024). For ensuring the health and safety of people in my home care I also implement Management of Health and safety at work regulations 1999. This act helps me in defining my duties related to safeguarding the health of the employees. With the help of this legislation related to moving and handling I create productive and safer environment from which they feel safe, encourage attracting and retaining with the company for long duration.
AC1.2 outlines the principles for safe moving and handling.
As an adult care worker, in care home I implement various principles related to their safe moving and handling to ensure health and safety of people. Prepare and plan ahead is considered as one of the critical principle related to health and safety in care homes. In this principle, I collect equipment, evaluate environment and encourage the participation of the staff. In addition, for moving and handling of the workers in adult care setting I use mechanical devices such as lift gurney etc. Another principle of safe moving and handling is keeping the head and spine of the workers is aligned at all the times. I also ensure body mechanism of the people who are facing the problem of moving and handling in order to health and safety in my care homes. Before lifting, I make sure that I have a secure grip. For the health and safety of the people in my care homes, I also make sure that all the equipment and other related objects are properly safe and clean. Along with this, I also ensure that any faults in equipment are not used until replaced or repaired. Another principle of safe moving and handling for safety and health of the worker is to wear appropriate personal protective equipment involving gloves in order to protect the people from exposure to blood borne pathogens (Latulippe, Hamel and Giroux, 2020). I always stand close enough to my workforces from that I successfully maintained their balance quickly at the time of transfer and handling activities. For safe moving and handling of the workers in home care I keep their legs and
arms positioned comfortably at their sides while all movements in order to prevent them from injury and harm.

For handling and moving the objects properly I use effective techniques. For effective moving and handling I keep my load close to my body and maintain the proper position. This equipment’s are useful for me because I easily move around from one place to another. At the time of lifting the heavy objects I also take the help of co-workers. For handling the safety objects and equipment properly I also consider the environment and looking for the several elements that cause harm and injury such as cramped spaces, slippery floors etc. For the handling of objects safely it is important for the people to wear safety equipment such as earplugs, gloves, high visibility jackets, helmets, respirators etc (Yang et al, 2020).
Along with this, with all the equipment and objects it requires to be safe before utilisation. Before using the objects the workers are accountable to ensure whether they are good working conditions, clean and being utilisation

The staffs will needs to take the time at the time of moving and handling the heavy objects.
Learning Outcome 2: Be able to handle hazardous substances and materials
AC2.1 identifies types of hazardous substances that may be found in the work setting.
In my own work setting, I found various hazardous substances in the work setting which directly impacts the health and safety of the people. Chemical spills, slips, fire and medical emergencies are considered as significant accidents that are generally happen in the workplace. Slip, falls and trips is considered as one of the common accident that happens in the workplace and directly impacts the health, safety and well-being of the workforces. This accident happens at the time when someone trips ends and slips up falling to the ground. This accident occurs if the floor is slippery or wet because of chemicals, spilled liquid and other substances (La Merrill et al, 2020). To prevent this accident it is crucial for clean the floors and free it from debris and spills. In addition, chemical spill is another hazardous substance that is
generally happen at the workplace. Usually, this accident occurs at the time when any dangerous or risky chemicals get dropped on the clothes and skill of the people. If the people are inhale the hazardous chemicals then it may cause poisoning and illness. From prevent this accident it is crucial to provide the training to the employees in regarding the way of using and handling the spills and hazardous chemicals effectively and safely.
On the other hand, fire or burn is another kind of accident that generally happens in work setting which directly impacts the health and well-being of the workers. This accident happens at the time when the combustible materials are exposed because of sparks, heat and flames. This accident increase the chances of arising disability of the workers from which they are unable to perform the work for life-time. From preventing this accident, it is important to provide training to the employees regarding way of handling and managing all the hazards related to fire safely (Drakvik et al, 2020).
Apart from this, medical emergency is another accident that is happen in the workplace. This accident happens at the time when any people unexpectedly become injured or ill. At that time it is important for the companies to prepare for medical emergencies by having emergency medical supplies and first-aid supplies on hand

AC3.1 describe practices that prevent fires from

For preventing fires in my own work setting I will require to implement various practices and take corrective actions. To prevent the fire from
starting I will need to store flammable materials in effective and corrective way. It is my responsibility to keeping the workplace tidy rubbish and clean from fuel or fire. For preventing the fire at my workplace I will need to evaluate the fire risks and put all the control measures in order to eliminate and reduce the risks. Along with this, I will need to eliminate using naked flames unless absolutely essential as well as avoid smoking in the workplace. For preventing the fire from starting the employees are also accountable for following the agreed manner of working. For health and safety of the workers it is crucial for employers to prevent the fire by taking all the corrective actions.

In case of spreading the fire in the workplace the employers are accountable to implement practices and corrective measures. In my own work setting, to prevent fires from spreading I use various equipment related to fire safety such as fire blankets or fire extinguishers. I will need to check smoke alarms and closing the windows and doors on the regularly basis. To eliminate the fire from spreading I will need to keep tidy and clean workplace as well as calling emergency services. Additionally, I will be also accountable for offering information, training related to fire safety equipment
and agreed manner of working in order to carrying out risks assessments. For eliminating the fire from spreading I will need to remove oxygen with the help of foam, carbon dioxide tec. Generally, fires require oxygen, heat and fuel to begin and spread so the employer are accountable to see that not overload their outlets with plugs or extension cords (Manzello et al, 2020).
AC3.2 explains emergency procedures to be followed in the event of a fire in work settings.
It is crucial for employers to follow emergency procedure at the time when fire occurs in work setting. At the time of occurring fire I will need to emphasis on emptying the workplace immediately, notifying others related to it and calling 999. In the event of occurring of spreading fire the people need to raise the alarm immediately. It is crucial for altering the people by telling about the fire to them and tells them to pull the nearest fire alarm. At the time of fire in the workplace all the people will need to use nearest close and exit windows and doors to evacuate them. To prevent the fire in work setting, it is crucial for staff to assemble the fire assembly point. It is pre-determined location where people are instructed to collect at the time emergency evacuation preliminary at the event of fire (Cvetković et al, 2022). Assembling fire point is beneficial for the companies because it aids in providing organized, safe and clear location for all building occupants in
order to accumulate and accounted for. In addition, to prevent the fire in work setting it is important for the staff to provide the information to the fire-fighters. At the time when fire-fighters are arriving it is significant to provide all relevant information about the fire. This involves the location of the individuals who might still require rescuing. In the event of fire, it is essential for staff to emphasis on fire safety signs and emergency lightings (D’Orazio et al, 2020). It helps in providing the clear direction to occupants on the safest and quickest routes to evacuate the building. This aids in ensuring safety of the individuals in care home at the time of fire because it aids in clear escape routes, determine hazards, fire-fighting equipment, security equipment and panic reduction.

Learning outcome 4: be able to implement security measures in work settings
AC4.1 explain the importance of ensuring that others are aware of own whereabouts.
Whereabouts refers to a concept which is connected with the safety of one character and their associated workforces and corporate culture. In my own work setting, I will be accountable for increase the awareness of others in related to whereabouts because it is important for their personal safety in case of emergency circumstances. In case of emergency it is important to provide the information about whereabouts to others because they are easily get to provide help and alert the suitable authorities. The awareness of workforce’s location helps their mangers in determining their location at the time of emergency from which formulates the plans accordingly to their absence and presence (Jiang et al, 2021). In my work setting I also kept complete information about the location of my employees because it aids me in ensuring that they are sticking with their identified job roles or not. If
the employers know about the location of the employees then it helps in reducing worry, anxiety especially for the family members. For example, in the event of fire, no other people are putting their lives in risk for looking towards you so it is important for the employers to about their location.
Furthermore, employers can inform about their whereabouts to the employees verbally and written. In the event of evacuation, it is the responsibility of the employers to know whether they are in the premises or not. Colleagues will also have rough idea about the people’s destination and routes so they can easily find them in case of missing.
