Communication is defined as the sharing of information from one person to another and in the intended manner only. This is particularly necessary because when effective communication is undertaken, the working is automatically improved. In the corporate culture, it is very necessary for the businesses to effectively communicate as it will assist in improving the capability of the business and attain the objectives well. The current essay relates to the evaluation of the challenges faced by the people while working within the Japanese working culture. In addition to this, the study will also evaluate the ways within which the working environment can be made cordial while working efficiently.
MAIN BODY
Importance of Effective Communication in Corporate Culture
While working within the corporate culture it is very necessary that effective communication is followed and complied with. The reason underlying the fact is that when proper communication will not be undertaken then it will affect the efficiency of the business to a great extent. Hence, it is the responsibility of the company they effectively try to improve communication so that the working efficiency of the employees and company can be improved well. The working culture, of Japanese companies, includes a focus on process-oriented working. The reason underlying the fact is that when the working capability of the employee is good then automatically it will increase the working capability of the overall company. Thus, for the companies operating in Japan, the effective working capability of the company must be improved. Moreover, it is also very crucial for the companies operating in Japan that they must effectively follow the working patterns by the latest requirements present.
Process-Oriented Working Culture in Japanese Companies
About this, it is very crucial for the companies operating in the Japanese market that they must effectively make the working culture friendly and cordial so that the overall working can be improved. The working trends in the Japanese market are focused on micro-details of the working pattern (Miike, 2019). This makes working tough as paying attention to the latest working pattern will affect the overall efficiency of the employees. The employees can't emphasize every little detail and as a result of this, the overall work is negatively affected. Moreover, when the employees try to emphasize every little working pattern then it will affect the working capacity of the employees. They will not be in a position to effectively focus on every working issue and will be affecting their working capability to a great extent.
In addition to this, studies have evaluated that the working culture of Japanese companies is very exhausting and unhealthy. The reason underlying this fact is that the people working in the company do not know about the annual leaves which they are having within the company. This is the major issue which is present within the working pattern of Japanese companies. The reason underlying the fact is that when the working employees are not provided proper leaves then the working capability will be affected and as a result of this the overall environment of the company is affected. Also, Japan was listed last in the 2016 Indeed Job Happiness Index among the 35 different countries that were surveyed (Japanese Work Culture: Here's How to Survive, 2024). Moreover, Japan is the second largest country who is having most vacation-deprived workers in comparison to the whole world. The reason underlying the fact is that when the employees will not be provided with appropriate leaves then it will be affecting the working capability to a great extent and as a result of this the overall working capability will be affected.
With the evaluation of the different sources, it was analysed that the history of Japan outlines that the country wanted to be at the same economic level as compared to other powerful and rich countries. This has affected the working capability of the employees working currently. It is because of the reason that when the country wants to become extensively big then they force the people to work overtime. Many times the employees are also not paid for the overtime which they have worked and this is ethically wrong. Along with this, another issue that the working pattern in Japan follows is the strict working ethics and as a result of this, the people working in companies are affected. The reason underlying the fact is that when more emphasis is given over the highly ethical working then it will affect the working capability of the employees. The employees will be more frustrated and as a result of this the overall working efficiency of them will be affected and the working efficiency would be reduced.
Hence, with the evaluation of the data, it is evident that an effective solution to these challenges needs to be found. The reason for this fact is that when the appropriate solutions are provided to the company and the employees then automatically the working efficiency will be improved (Chen, 2022). Thus, as a result of this, the overall working capability of the employees will be enhanced. When the employees will be working efficiently then automatically the overall working will also be improved. Hence, companies operating in the Japanese market, need to maintain a good working environment so that the overall performance of the company can be improved for the employees as well.
Language and Communication Challenges in Japanese Companies
Along with this another major challenge identified is the communicating language which is used in the companies. Many times this creates a great challenge while working within the highly competitive market. The reason underlying the fact is that there are many different types of people operating in the company (House and Kádár, 2021). Not all people need to be acquainted with the language and the mode of communication. Thus, it is the responsibility of the company they include a particular working pattern for the company so that every employee is comfortable working in the company. The reason behind this fact is that when the company provides a good communication mode to the employees then they will be much happier while working. Thus, it is the responsibility of the company they focus on effective communication and with some common language so that it is not difficult for the employees of the company to work.
Moreover, it is the responsibility of the company they find some better solutions for improving communication within the workplace. This is necessary for the reason that when the focus on improving communication will be laid then automatically it will enhance the working capability of the employees and the overall company as well. For this, companies operating in Japan can recruit a language specialist who knows different types of languages spoken. This is assistive to the company because when there is any issue or discrepancy faced by the company due to the language then it will be solved with the help of the language expert only. Thus, it will result in a reduction in the issues faced and the overall working capability. Also, when the language expert is present within the company then automatically it will assist the employees as well in seeking guidance from the expert. This will assist the company in improving the overall working capability of the employees and as a result of this, the efficiency of the business is improved well.
Moreover, the people are employed from different countries and they speak different types of languages. Thus as a result of this, the overall working capability of the company would be affected when people come from diverse cultural backgrounds (Pizziconi, 2021). Along with the language, the culture is another major type of challenge which the company faces while working. The reason underlying the fact is that when people belonging to different types of the culture will be working together then it will be affecting the working efficiency of the employees to a great extent.
Hence, for the effective working of the company it is very necessary that a focus on intercultural communication is emphasized. This is particularly necessary because when the intercultural communication will be employed by the company then it will assist the Japanese companies in improving their working environment (Stadler, 2011). Thus, it will be assisting the companies in improving their working capability and the interest of the employees. When the intercultural communication will be focused then communication among the employees will be effective and cordial. Person belonging to any other culture will not feel inferior and will be assisting them in improving their working capability. Along with this, it is also beneficial for the companies that they must focus on inter cultural Communications. Another reason underlying the fact is that the companies have to deal with different companies belonging to other countries. Hence, it is the responsibility of the companies that they must effectively communicate inter culturally so that overall communication can be improved.
In addition to this, for the intercultural communication another major difficulty outlined is the stereotypes. There is much different kind of stereotypes being already set while working within the global environment. The stereotypes negatively impact the working capability of the employees. The reason underlying the fact is that stereotypes are set within the mind of the people and they follow it accordingly. Even if there is no requirement of the stereotype then also the thinking of the person is directed towards the stereotype only. Thus, this negatively affects the working capability and efficiency of the employees and they are not in a position to work efficiently. Moreover the stereotypes influence the other people as well. The reason behind the fact is that when one person is following any kind of stereotype then they will try to influence other to follow the same stereotypes or the working pattern. This is another major barrier which affects the intercultural communication and particularly within the Japanese company.
Moreover, with the analysis of the East Asian countries it is very necessary that focus on intercultural communication is emphasized. The reason underlying the fact is that when the intercultural communication will not be implemented then it will be affecting the working efficiency of the employees (Jhaiyanuntana and Nomnian, 2020). When working efficiency of the employees will be affected then the overall capability of the company will reduce. Thus, it will be impacting the working efficiency of the company negatively and the competitive position of the business will reduce. Hence it is the responsibility of the company that they must focus on effective intercultural communication so that the overall working can be improved and employees will be more satisfied (Barkley, 2020). For improving the satisfaction and the motivational level of the employees it is mandatory for the businesses in Japan and other East Asian countries that they must effectively focus on good motivation and communication skill. When the communication will be good then automatically it will engage the Employees with the company for a longer period of time. Hence, it will assist the company in keeping the employees engaged and as a result of this of the employee and connection with the company will increase.
Historical Context and Overtime Issues in Japanese Work Culture
Along with this, another major challenge being faced by the companies while intercultural communication is the different approaches of completing any task. Every country is different and the working patterns and approaches are also different for every country. Thus, it is the responsibility of the companies in Japan that they must focus on the majority of the employees belonging to which company. Hence, it will be helping the company in improving the intercultural communication. When the Japanese company will try to understand the approaches followed by the employees coming from different country or cultural background then it will assist the company in having more better working and. The reason behind the fact is that when the appropriate approaches are used which are common for all the employees than automatically their interest within the company and its performance will increase.
Hence, it will help the business in improving the working efficiency and as a result of this overall working of the Japanese and other companies and East Asian countries will improve. Thus, it is very necessary for all the companies that they effectively focus on the various approaches of completing the study or the task within the company. It is the responsibilities of the company that they must implement the strategies which are prepared keeping in mind the employees coming from diversified backgrounds. It is necessary because it is not possible for the company to prepare Strategies for each and every employee. This it is the responsibility of the company that they prepare the policy is keeping in mind the common points relating to people coming from every background.
Furthermore by the analysis of the different literatures it is evident that there are other challenges as well which affect the intercultural communication to a great extent. This includes the prejudices and attitude of the employees themselves (Kotera, Van Laethem and Ohshima, 2020). Within the Global working the employees coming from different cultural backgrounds are working together. But the major problem which they face while working in intercultural team is prejudices and the attitude which the employees have. This includes the thinking and the attitude which they have towards working. Every person is different and the perception and thinking capabilities also very different in other country. The reason behind the fact is that the perception is developed on the basis of the upbringing and the culture within which the person was living. When it changes then automatically it is difficult for the person to adjust within the new culture. Thus, it makes it difficult for the person to adjust within such an environment and as a result of this the working environment is negatively impacted.
For instance, a person is having the thinking that female working is not a good within the corporate culture. Then automatically it will impact the behaviour of them towards the female employees. Thus, as a result of this it creates issues within the working environment. For this it is very necessary that person try to change the attitude and perception of working in accordance to the current working environment. The reason behind the fact is that when the people will not be adjusting to the current working environment then they will face some issues while working. For instances the people are not supporting female employment then it might be possible that they have to leave the job. It is because currently the female empowerment is at peak and in case female employees are not included within the company then the companies operation would be impacted (Pizziconi, 2021). Hence, it is very mandatory for the employees to try to change their attitude and perception in accordance to the current working patterns. Thus, it will assist the company in improving the capability of the company and try to improve the overall performance.
CONCLUSION
In the end it is concluded that the working patterns are different from country to country. Within the East Asian countries the working pattern are different as compared to the other countries. Thus, it is very necessary for the companies to evaluate the issues and problems so that working can be improved. The above study concluded that there are many different challenges faced by the companies while operating internationally. Different intercultural communication issues for highlighted like differences in attitude, perception, working approaches and many other different challenges that highlighted.
