Difference between management and leadership

In general, it seems that the management system and leadership style are similar but it has its specification in a deeper level of knowledge. A leader is a person to whom the members of a team usually follow to accomplish their project. On the other hand, management is recognized as the body for which the team works. However, the difference is all about the perception that often creates differences between lead and management. The perception of leaders is to motivate his or her team members for better performance, praise the success and drive team members for the development of individual skill (Pery et al.2020). On the other hand, the perception of management is to find out faults in the team and instruct them for the correction. However, the prior motto of the management for enhancement is better planning so that the organization can move towards success (Desta et al.2020). The major role of management is to construct a big picture for the success of their organization and influence their people to go through the activation of the vision and mission of the organization. However, to accomplish a big picture of organizational success the management involves them to give directions and equipment to leaders so that they can build up an effective team. On the ladder ask their team members to cooperate and coordinate with tasks and fulfil the requirement of the specific project. In management authoritarian style has approached to accomplish the task where the in leadership style motivational approach has often been conducted to accomplish the project task. Furthermore, management pays attention to focus on what to do; however, the leader focuses on how to do the work. Managers illustrate good ideas for the organizational goal where the leader synchronizes the idea and develops it to create a highly functionalized team that is capable of enhancing a wide range of success (Cepiku and Mastrodascio,2021). However, management reacts to the required changes in the team that it could be able to align with the vision of the organization. On the other hand, the leadership has approached to create the changes so that the team can increase its efficiency.

Justification for the importance of leadership in nursing and health care 

The importance of leadership in the healthcare and nursing system is essential as they act with authority to enhance required changes in the organization so that it could help to have a better performance. At the same time, the leader played a significant role in educating nurse staff so that they could learn to make evidence-based decisions. It helps them to provide better treatment for patients so that they can be cured soon and lead a healthy life. However, transformational leadership styles illustrate such a useful way out that can help to increase the work involvement among the nursing staff and they can be more attentive to give their best. At the same time, the core principle of transformational leadership helps to foster such a useful and strategic climate for the team members that they can lean toward personal development (Bragadóttir et al.2020). The approach of leadership helps to identify the specific individual skill among team members. On the other hand, nurse leaders who are experienced and skilled can be the major source of knowledge that team members can utilize to foster good performance in the healthcare system. Moreover, through the specific leadership style, flexible changes can be implemented that are required to change. Leadership is essential, as it would be able to create a proper vision for the team that illustrates the way out to ensure the required changes in the healthcare system. Knowledge transformation can be possible with the help of experienced and leading quality nurses who can motivate to improve interprofessional collaboration in the team. Furthermore, the transformational leadership style influences the intellectual stimulation that encourages innovation and creative ideas for effective team activation so that they can be influenced for their better performance. However, leaders guide nurses to how they can involve various types of professional healthcare for a better result for patients. Furthermore, it has also helped to provide a good mentor system to the team for exceptional care of patients (Al?Yateem et al.2020). Leadership helps the healthcare sector to provide better treatment and can mitigate the individual needs of patients.

Justification of the importance of good leadership and what happens when leadership is poor

Good leadership is essential and significant to forecast a functionalized and effective team that can ensure the success of the organization. At the same time, good leadership is always required to increase the skill of the team so that they can do better. Inspirational motivation is the core factor of leadership that can be able to identify the actual strength of the workforce and can help to reveal the true talent and skill as team members are more involved and move their activities towards creativity. However, good leadership can motivate employees for innovative ideas and creativity that is always preferable for organizational growth. At the same time, a good leadership style will always help team members to way out creative solution for critical issues and build up coordination in the team (McInnes et al.2020). However, good leadership is required to encourage team members so that they can reach the common goal for the organization. Good leadership is always preferable for the personal development of staff that is necessary to secure the organizational goal.

On the other hand, poor leadership causes organizational loss as it fails to promote the common goal of the organization among the team members. Poor communication can make confusion among team members and cannot approach a clear conception of the project or the vision of the organization. It resulted in a higher level of turnover of staff that causes company loss as the organizational performance can be hampered by this turnover (Mearns, 2020). It has found that poor leadership often causes poor direction and that employees lose their enthusiasm to involve them in the work. In many cases, it has been found that poor leadership affects the overall work culture and that affects the overall productivity and profitability of the organization. The negligence of employee performance and skill for work affectivity is the prior feature of poor leadership. However, poor leadership may cause misunderstanding among staff and they can be misguided and fail to mitigate their professional goals. In this context, the case of the Mid Staffs scandal can illustrate the example of poor leadership. Due to the negligence of leadership and staff care, 400-1200 patients died at Stafford hospital in the year 2009.

Reference of influence effective leadership has on nursing team and patient care

In the nursing team and the sector of healthcare, effective leadership needs to be implemented to ensure better treatment for patients. However, an experienced and skilled nurse needs to recruit to enhance the effectiveness of the team. To enhance the cost-effectiveness in care service the effective ladder of the nursing team can build up a strong communication system in the team so that they can provide the entire surveillance in case of a medical emergency (Brooks,2020). However, the team leader of the nursing team can effectively plan for suitable programs that can increase the range of teamwork. To accomplish this prior objective team leader can impose a suitable training program that can coordinate with each other in an emergency clinical case. At the same time, the nurse leader can approach to provide proper knowledge and learning to their team members so that they can implement the safety of patients under their care system. On the other hand, the leaders need to motivate the nursing staff so that they increase their skill to maintain a standard car service for the patient under their care (Celdrana, 2020). The leaders of nursing staff should provide creative and problem-solving ideas so that the team can be energetic and enthusiastic to expose a standard care service for patients.

Introduction of the project

I am a nursing staff leader and this is the proposal that will illustrate the importance of nursing leadership and suitable clinical practices that health care workers can succeed in to approach manual handling to the patients who are suffering from low back pain. However, the proposal will illustrate a clear conception of change management in the healthcare system for a better understanding of the discussion. At the same time, it will focus on smart clinical practices so that flexible changes can be approached in the clinical department for better performance. This proposal aims to ensure a proper idea of training for health workers so that they will be confident enough to provide a better care service for their patients who are suffering from low back pain.

Definition of Change Management

Change management is recognized as the method and how the appropriate changes can be implemented. In change management, the entire involved individual needs to understand the requirement of change in the institution of form. At the same time, needs to identify and approve the change practices so that it could enhance a better consequence for their employees (McCarthy et al.2021). In the context of health care, it has become very necessary to implement useful changes in the healthcare system so that it could help them to provide advanced clinical performance (McCarthy et al. 2021). At the same time, change management can be defined as how the requirement of change management can be identified, approved and determined in the right and energetic way. On the other hand, change management can enhance an effective way to deal with things with time and cost-effectively and thus, it ensures profitability for the organization. In this context, the leader of the team plays a significant role to prepare and support the team so that they can understand the core value of change management and approach their behaviour according to the change so that the organization can secure its successful implementation.

The aspect of clinical practice relating to the evidence base

Aim

This proposal aims to focus on the use of manual handling equipment among nurses that can provide solutions and can help to enhance better performance of the nursing team to assure a better care service for patients with low back pain.

Objective

  • To enforce all possible manual handling equipment to nurses that they can help to develop their care service to the patients with lower back pain
  • To ensure the safety of patients and evidence-based clinical practices for the patient suffering from lower back pain
  • To enhance an e-learning training program for a nursing team that they can approach time and cost-effective care service

SMART Approach for the departmental change

To enhance successful departmental change in the sector of the nursing care system I would like to approach Smart goals for my staff so that they can increase their performance and gain the required skills.

Be specific: I would approach to provide sufficient equipment and training so that they can adopt the right skill and education to deal with the specific and complex situation on behalf of low back pain patients who are suffering a lot (López-Leyva et al.2020). At the same time, I would like to train them on how they can approach critical thinking or approach critical reasoning for the departmental change. They can understand the required change to enhance their policy and procedure of treatment according to the complexity of patients. At the same time, the prior goal of them would be to establish an open interpretation. However, the nursing staff will also be trained on how to increase their skills in using the tools of technology that is associated with the advanced technology of treatment. In the context of low back treatment, the nurses are trained to handle the new technology of Radiofrequency Discal Nucleoplasty so that patients with lower back pain can be privileged more.

Measurable performance: The departmental change is a requirable sector where the goals of nurses are required to successfully mitigate to measure a greater level of success (Paul et al.2020). In this context, the entire goals of nursing staff will be measured so that the range of success and failure can be accounted for and it will help to approach new ideas on the problem. To enhance the short and long term goals among nursing staff I will train them to maintain measurable milestones and measure their progress so that they can increase the requirable skills such as communication and coordination skills for a better care service for their patients (Donzia and Kim, 2021). At the same time, the finish line should also be measured so that they can approach a better treatment for them and can approach certain departmental changes to secure the progress of treatment.

Attainable: The required and sufficient equipment will be provided to the nursing staff so that they can reach their goal and have a border picture for the specific treatment for the patient who is suffering from lower back pain. The more specialized medicines and treatment procedures can enhance more attainable performance for the improvement of the department. More fragmented health care service can be possible due to the improved mindset of bushes to catty on overload of the work (Omar et al.2021). I would approach proper training on how they can secure the safety of patients.

Realistic approach: I would approach such strategic practices for the nursing staff of my team so that they can enhance effective communication with each other and can suggest to each other in the context of any complex situation for patient handling (Ford et al.2021). However, the focus will be very strong to maintain the interpersonal relationship with team members that would play a major role to prevent the risk of management in the sector of healthcare. The realistic approach will be imposed on the members of the nursing team so that they can learn to work within the critical environment and can provide better treatment for the patient and can prevent the injuries of low back pain. However, provide them with the right way of treatment and suggestions. On the other hand, they will be trained to approach the right way of treatment in case of any catheter relevant issues for patients. On the other hand, the reduction of medicine error will also enhance the departmental change.

Time management: Time management is another approach that will include the goal for the development of the team so that they can accomplish a better care treatment for the patients. At the same time, the nursing staff will be trained to develop their mentoring relationship so that they can understand and identify the initial changes of their care department within the targeted time (Bengiovanni et al.2020).

Evidence-based good practices for back pain, statistics and successful projects 

The nursing staffs that are responsible for the treatment of lower back patients need to approach some evidence-based practices. First, they need to search out the medical history of their patient so that it could help them to provide the right and appropriate diagnosis and physical therapy for them (Shafi et al.2020). They need to approach if the patient is carrying an acute or chronic back pain as the way of treatment for both criteria is different. In this context, the nursing team should focus on some clinical questionnaires for patients so that they can get to know about other clinical information such as allergy and can scientifically justify the treatment they will approach for them. On the other hand, it will also help to prepare a proper guideline for patients with lower back pain difficulties and can guide their behaviour sitting and standing posture so that they can relieve the lower back pain.

Force field analysis

Referred to appendix 2 the driving forces are the reduction of staff absence, development of nursing staff, implementing patient's experience, the safety of patients and cost reduction. On the other hand, restraining forces are high range staff turnover, lack of training and poor communication.

Refer to appendix 2, in the context of leadership development in the healthcare sector, some driving forces can create obstacles. In many cases, it can be seen that lack of proper training may arise as the bigger challenge to provide better treatment for the patients. At the same time, lack of proper training nursing staff cannot approach problem-solving skills to resolve the problem. On the other restraining force is a high turnover of staff that can affect the effectiveness of the team and overall performance in the team (Kankaraš et al.2020). Due to lack of efficiency and skill, the cost of treatment can be increased and that will not satisfy patients. Apart from this poor communication can be another restraining force that often creates problems in the sector of nursing management and the leadership development program. Time management and staff development issues also reveal the problematic factors for team development.

Lewin’s change model

Kurt Lewin has developed this change model where he has referred to three essential steps to enhance change in the system as Unfreezing, Change and refreezing. In the context of nursing management, the core principle of the model will be approached for better performance.

Unfreezing

According to the theory, unfreezing is the situation that illustrates the confusion and lack of information among nursing staff about the use of manual handling equipment and its impact to provide a crucial treatment for the patient with lower back pain. In this context, the ladder needs to raise the required knowledge to team members so that they can understand the needs and applications of manual handling equipment (Coghlan,2021). In unfreezing situations, it is common to resist or conflict with the use of new approaches due to the lack of knowledge about the use of manual handling equipment that causes the risk of back injury. The leader can resolve the unfreezing situation by approving proper training and information. However, a leader needs to pay attention to the old behaviour of his nursing team and carefully make them understand the requirements and benefits of the certain change (Tracy, 2020).

Change

After unfreezing the old behaviour of his nursing team, the leader can approach for an effective change. Thus, he can carefully observe the current behaviour of their nurses so that they can adapt and adjust to the new approach of manual handling treatment for patients with low back pain (Burnes, 2020). In this context, they can approach strong communication with the team so that the team can be enthusiastic and energetic to behave according to certain changes.

Refreezing

Refreezing is recognized as the final stage of change management according to Lewin and in this stage, the leader will focus on the stabilization and solidification of a new movement for the change. In this stage, the prior responsibility of the nursing team leader will be to ensure that his staff will not go back to their previous behaviour to treat the patient with lower back pain and forget about the use of manual handling equipment (Bhayangkara et al.2020).

Conclusion

It is concluded that leadership is playing a significant role in the healthcare sector. It plays a major role to motivate nursing staff to provide a better care service for their patients. In many cases, it has found that real-life problems such as overload, lack of training and lack of equipment because variable issues for health care staff. In this context, skilled and experienced leadership can help them to provide them with smart healthcare goals. However, good leadership is always preferable in the healthcare system as it provides innovative ideas and implements clinical practices so that patients can be more privileged and satisfied with the specific care service. However, ladder plays a greater role to approach a combined and collective practice that each need can be implemented with efficiency. In this context, a nurse leader can play a major role to increase the involvement of nursing staff by providing them with sufficient clinical knowledge and training so that they can identify and determine their job role regarding the task. At the same time, the nursing department needs to be implemented to accomplish a better and advanced care service. In this context, leaders need to implement smart goals for their staff that the safety of patients can be ensured. Here the job role of leader is major as he helps to approach a specific and team effective approach to conduct a better treatment for a patient with lower back pain.
