Reflection

I am working in an organization where I provide proper knowledge and skill to students regarding how to use medical types of equipment and their application to measure patients’ vital signs. I gave proper instructions to all my students for maintaining safety procedures while checking patients’ vital signs such as wearing hand gloves and using sanitiser thus, it ensures both students and patients for remaining safe. Giving proper instructions to the patients has assisted me to recognize my strengths in giving clear instructions and improving my leadership skills by encouraging students to work effectively and efficiently. It also improves my collaboration and teamwork skills with students and it is helping me to continue my work. After giving proper instructions to those students, I am providing constructive feedback to all students hence, it helps them to rectify their weaknesses and improve their working practices. Moreover, I am providing opportunities to those students practising carrying out physical health checkups on patients. Thus, it assists them to gain more confidence and developing their nursing skills (Kent et al. 2021). Based on the NMC, teaching students about physical health checkups is emphasizing the necessity of continuous healthcare learning practices (Nmc, 2023). Moreover, emerging with new healthcare equipment and technologies help me to be more updated with the attest developments.

I taught my first-year mental health nursing students about caring for patients who show vital signs and symptoms and checking their health on the basis of the symptoms. I taught them the use of crucial equipment and instruments which have been used by a healthcare professionals to check their patients. The instruments and machines whcih I have taught them to operate generally included the Omron M3 blood pressure machine along with a blood pressure cuff and a tympanic thermometer. apart from this, I have also taught them to use the pulse oximeter which was very easy to use. instead of all these, I have made some things very specific and clear to them. The patients have learned to check the equipment before use. I tough the students to verify everything and equipment and make sure that the instruments should be calibrated and must be in a good and pleasant operating system.

The students I have taught have learned the use of every piece of the instruments and their functions. in my opinion, it was very important to make teach them about the application and operation of every part of the equipment. apart from this, as a teacher, I thought that analysis of the result is one of the most important parts of their learning session. so, I have made them all understand clearly how to analyse the results and how to interpret the symptoms of the patients and conclude. being a teacher, at the very being it was very important to teach my students about safety procedures. The proper implication of the safety procedures has been one of the most important things that should be needed to teach the students while teaching them about physical checkups. I told them to follow the safety measures such as wearing masks and gloves, washing hands at the time of physical checkups and doing any assessments. I also told them that these simple methods will help them to keep safe and also their patients too.

Apart from this, I gave them lessons about the examination of blood pressure. It was my part of the job to make them clear everything including the basic mechanisms. I illustrated to them that if a patient is having g high blood pressure then their heart will work too hard. Apart from this, make them note that if this happens the blood flow through the blood vessels will be very high. If the systolic blood pressure of the patient has been very high then that can lead to a higher risk of blindness, and heart disease which can also lead to kidney failure of the patients. Apart from this, a patient can also suffer from stroke and heart failure. the consequences of the patients having higher systolic blood pressure are high as compared to that of the one having higher diastolic pressure. I have also discussed the normal temperature of the patient's body and how a human body can eliminate and gain temperature. I made them aware of the temperature range of a normal body and also stated to them that the body temperature of the patients also varies according to various factors such as gender, activity level, stress level, diet and others.

Including myself in such an academic section has helped in the identification of the leadership skills which I have noticed while providing teaching lessons to my students. My skills in making people understand nursing practices and caregiving ideas and experiments have been found to get strengthened by the teaching activity. The oral instructions on the physical health checkup of the patients and following the safety rules have made me more effective. On the other, I have also told them to notify nurses whenever there are some problems and major issues in the patients suddenly or the patient might have a body temperature risen. From this action, the students notify of everything to their respective nurses this has ensured that the students have successfully understood the expectation from their side and shall be able to task efficiently.

On the other hand, I am very satisfied with my work delivery and my leadership skills which have helped me to deliver effective skills to my students and also helped to encourage and show effective teamwork. I have also told them about their respective roles as well as also helped to make them aware that the role of every student is different and specific in the sector of physical health checkups. As a teacher and leader, it was my duty to encourage them to work in a team and collaborate with their team members effectively. The communication process of the team members should be effective towards each other and make sure that every task allocated to each member of the team should be completed in an accurate manner and effectively. this has also depicted my leadership skills in encouraging my teams to collaborate and work together effectively.

Instead of teaching such things to my students, I have also given them constructive feedback based on my supervision while carrying out physical health checkups. Apart from this, I have also told them to make some changes in the area of their weakness and the areas in which they have to improve. I have used all my leadership skills to increase their confidence. I have provided clear instructions to all my students and have also provided them an encouraged as well as active learning. This teaching activity has provided me with a positive experience and I hope the students will be able to keep in mind every lesions and activity I have taught them. Apart from this, during this learning and teaching activity, I have also learned a lot of things which has enriched my knowledge. the emergence of new technologies and treatment machines has also encouraged me to keep updated and provide the best care practices I can give to my students.

Summary of learning

The entire discussion has been developed based on healthcare practices, leadership skills, professional development and collaboration skills of a healthcare practitioner. According to the NMC, healthcare practitioners can provide high-quality care and treatment to patients (Nmc, 2023). Based on the code, the healthcare practitioner is required to provide care and treatment with confidence thus the patient can overcome health issues and lead to healthy well-being. According to Smith et al. (2020), communicating with other or team members is beneficial for an individual to improve both collaboration and communication skills. The discussion has been based on providing leaving knowledge and practices to the mental health nursing students and making them aware of all the safety procedures. Apart from this, it was all about providing care.

The discussion based on leadership and management principles in a healthcare setting is crucial for an individual to improve professional skills and develop healthcare practices. As a result, it is helpful for those patients to receive hygienic and safe treatment and care from the healthcare settings. As depicted by Usmani, (2019), leading a team or group is a responsible working practice which is helping to improve professional skills and it is beneficial for future career development. Hence, it can be said that from the above discussion, I have learnt the effectiveness of teamwork, leadership skill, management skill and supervision skill and those skills are helpful for my further career development.

The above table has highlighted different types of actions, which are required to be taken and improving my professional skills for providing accurate care to patients. As a result, patients can overcome their critical health issues and lead healthy lifestyles. Promoting professional development is crucial for a healthcare practitioner to provide high-quality care and treatment and care to patients to receive positive health outcomes (Liu et al. 2020). Moreover, due to having insufficient capital resources is creating a major issue, which has been faced by healthcare practitioners while promoting professional development activities.

Based on the “Nursing and Midwifery Council” different types of practices or guidelines are affecting positively patients’ health outcomes (Nmc, 2023). On the other hand, improving decision-making skills is essential as improving critical thinking skills. As a result, healthcare practitioners can provide special care and treatment depending on their health needs. As a result, I need to improve my decision-making skills by observing patients and thinking critically regarding patients’ health needs on a daily basis. Patients who are suffering from mental disorders are required to receive proper care and the nursing staff is required to show positive attitudes toward the patients (Gov, 2023). Thus, it is helpful for those patients to combat mental distress by getting positive attitudes and behaviours from me and it is beneficial for the patients to improve their health issues.

Conclusion

The entire essay has summarized that the necessity of Continuing Professional Development for a healthcare practitioner is beneficial for developing a career and improving professional skills. Moreover, it is beneficial for nursing practitioners to upskill their professional skills, learn healthcare practices, and show commitment to professionalism and self-development. Five different scenarios have been discussed in this essay and those case scenarios are entirely based on patient care and care episode. The application of the “Nursing and Midwifery Council” guidelines is crucial for me to improve the quality of my patient care provision procedure. Additionally, after discussing the above scenarios, I have recognized that I can easily lead a team, supervised team members and communicate with team members. As a result, it is beneficial for me to improve my patient care provision quality and develop my career for the upcoming days. Henceforth, it can be concluded that all principles of effective management are helpful in providing high-quality patient care and assisting patients to improve their health and lead healthy and normal lifestyles.
