Research Tool/ Method

There are different types of research methods which can be selected by the research such as surveys, interviews, observation, experiments, focus groups or mixed methods. In present study the researcher would conduct questionnaire survey for collecting the data for research study. Questionnaire survey is one of the effective method used for collecting the primary data in an detailed manner by understanding the views of all the research participants in an appropriate manner. The reason behind selecting this research methodology is that the report is focusing on case study. When the research focuses on case study then it is important to ensure that more authentic and detailed information should be collected from the research participants (Zhang et. al. 2017).

Identifying Population and Research Site

In the current study researcher would focus on conducting primary research with the employees of M&S. Due to covid-19 precaution measures the researcher will conduct the questionnaire survey with the employees of M&S by sharing the questionnaire through e-mails.

Sampling Strategy

Sampling is defined as the process of selecting the particular group of people form the entire population. While conducting the primary research the researcher needs to select the best participants for their research study (Martino, 2018). In the current study the researcher is conducting the research on the case company M&S.For this the researcher needs to conduct the questionnaire survey with the employees of the case company. In present study researcher had used random sampling method for selecting the research participants. Twenty employees of M&S were randomly being selected by researcher and then concern is being taken from their for being a part of the research study. The questionnaire is having 10 questions based on the research topic.

Data Collection

Data collection method are being referred as the methods which are being selected by the researcher for collecting the information in the research study. Two types of data collection methods are primary and secondary data collection method. In current study the researcher would use primary data collection method in which the researcher would collect the information by their own. The researcher had selecting this data collection method as it would help them in conducing the detailed research on the case company (Karale, 2020). Along with this the data collected by the primary data collection method is more reliable as compared to the secondary data. For collecting the information questionnaire survey is being collected with the employees of company and the questionnaire is shared through e-mail as a concern for the safety of the research participants

Data Analysis

When the data is being collected then the researcher needs to use an effective tool for analysing the data. Different types of data analysis methods are available but it is important for the researcher to focus on selecting the data analysis methods on the basis of the type of data collected and the strategy used for collecting it. In the current study the researcher had collected the qualitative data and for analysing it the researcher would use thematic analysis (Terry et. al. 2017). In this analysis different themes are being developed for understanding the research topic in detail. This analysis is being selected as it is one of the most effective data analysis method used for analysing the qualitative data. Along with this it also helps the readers in understanding the results of the research study easily and in appropriate manner.

Ethical Considerations

Ethical considerations are having an major role to play in the research study as it is having an impact on quality of the research study (Fiesler, 2019). When the research is conducted then it is important for the researcher to focus on paying attention on the different ethical considerations. In the current study the researcher had focused on several ethical considerations which are explained below:

Talent management had become one of the important task for the human resource management department of the company. It is essential for the HR department to focus on managing the talented employees in an effective manner as they are having an significant impact on theperformance and productivity of the organisation (Savanevi?ien? and Vil?iauskait?, 2017). All the businesses focus on developing effective strategies for motivating the employees as it is having an influence on the quality of work delivered by the employees and overall productivity of the firm.In this research the researcher had explores this concept with the case of M&S. Several factors are having an impact on the motivational level of the employees and for this the businesses needs to work on these factors in an effective manner.

Businesses needs to focus on having motivation strategies that can help them in influencing the behaviour of employees and motivating them. In the case of M&S the results of the questionnaire survey had shown that majority of employees believe that the company is having effective strategies for motivating the employees in an appropriate manner. M&S is having effective strategies for offering successful training and motivating the employees. Due to the higher risk of employee turnover, M&S focuses on motivating them and satisfying them with their jobs. The company focuses on investing better capital in using the latest technologies in the workplace and offering better training to employees which can help them in increasing their job satisfaction(Sughra, 2019). The retail sector is changing continuously and M&S is focusing on developing effective skills and knowledge of their employees. This would help the employees in working with better efficiency. Along with this it also helps the company in feeling the employees more valued and also develops better opportunity for them to learn new things. This is helping the case company in motivating their employee to work effectively for the company.

Leadership is also having an significant impact of the motivational level of the employees. It is important for the businesses to have effective leader who can apply effective leadership style and better strategies that can help them in leading the firm effectively (Carsten et. al. 2018).The leader is having an higher influence on the behaviour of the employees within the organisation. Along with this it also affects the employee engagement that is also connected with the employeemotivation. In this study it is being found that majority of the employees think that the company is having effective leadership and the leader is inspiring them to work with better dedication for the company. The relationship between the leader and the employees also plays an major role in the motivational level of the employees. In the questionnaire survey it is being found that M&S is having better communication and effective relationship between the employees and leader.

When the leader is having better relationship with the employees than it helps them in understanding the employees in an effective manner. Individual differences are having an higher impact on all the organisational factors including motivation as well. All the individuals are having different mindsets and due to thisthe leaders needs to understand that what are the different factors that can motivate the employees (Khan and Wajidi, 2019). No particular strategy can be effective in motivating all the employees so the businesses needs to focus on diverse factors that can help them in motivating the employees (Wilshaw et. al. 2021). M&S focuses on having effective leadership in the firm as it is also having an significant influence on the employee motivation. The leader are having an higher influence on employees and it is important for them to inspire and influence them.

Organisational culture of the organisation is also an important factor that is having an impact on the motivational level of the employees.Different factors of the organisational culture also affects the motivational level of employees in the workplace. If the organisation offers an culture with no discrimination, better employee relations and effective leadership then it is having an positive impact on the behaviour of the employees (Bilanet. al. 2020). M&S focuses on offering an comfortable environment at the workplace where the employees feel valued and respected. The company also focuses on involving the employees in the decision making process as it helps them in developing better employee engagement. In the questionnaire survey the employees said that the organisation is having effective an positive culture that motivates the employees. It can be said that the employers needs to ensure that they offer an culture to their employees where all the employees are respected and valued so they would be motivated to deliver better work to the firm (Hitkaet. al. 2018). The case company had focused an organisational culture in which they respect the cultural and individual diversity and this helps them in motivating the employees and allowing them to perform better for the firm.

Rewards are considered as one of the most effective extrinsic motivational factor that can increase the motivation level of employees and inspire them to deliver better performance to their employer (Ahmad et. al. 2019). M&S focuses on offering different types of rewards to their employees on the basis of their performance. In the survey it was found that the employees are satisfied with the rewards offered by the company but some of them are not satisfied. From this it can be interpreted that the case company should focus on bringing improvement in their reward system. M&S focuses more on financial rewards and for this they offer different bonuses to their employees on the basis of their performance in the organisation. Along with this also provide additional leaves to the employees on festivals as rewards and also adds the annual leaves of the employees based on performance of the employees in the organisation.

Mark and spencer is having an large workplace and had developed effective strategies for motivating the employees. M&S is offering staff performance incentives to their employees. The company focus on offering incentives and financial rewards to their employees in return of their better performance in organisation. M&S give rewards and incentives for recognising the employees. These incentives are also motivating other employees to work hard and deliver better performance so that they can also get recognised and can get incentives as well (Kahindi, 2021). M&S focuses on recognising the employees as it is helping the increasing the motivational level of employees that affects the productivity of the company. In the survey it was found that half of the employees are satisfied with the incentives offered by the company this reflects that the company needs to focus on improving their incentive system as well.

The work conditions in which the employees are working are having an significant influence on their motivational level and also on the quality of the work delivered by them. It is important for the businesses to focus on offering an safe workplace to their employees. In the survey it was found that the case company is offering effective workplace to their employees. This is helping the organisation in keeping their employees active and energetic and this also helps them in having an positive behaviour of the employees at the workplace. Pay offered by the company is also an important factor that affects the motivational level of the employees. If the organisation is offering competitive salary to their employees and they are satisfied with their salary than this would motivate them to work effectively and deliver better work to the organisation (Ogbonnayaet. al. 2017). M&S focuses on offering better pay to their employees for motivating them and retaining them for a longer period time. In the survey also it had been found that majority of the employees are highly satisfied with their pay as per their job roles and this is also motivating them as well. The company is offering effective salary to their employee because their competitors such as Tesco, Sainsbury, ASDA and Walmart are also offering higher pay to their employees. M&S is operating in competitive business environment in which the customer experience is having an significant impact on the sales and profitability of the company. The case company is offering competitive pay and effective benefits for motivating the employees to deliver better in-store service to their customers and enhance the overall productivity and profitability of the firm (Ranjan and Mishra, 2017).

The level of communication among all the team members in the workplace is also having an higher influence on employee motivation (Khan et. al. 2020). M&S focuses on developing effective communication in their workplace and for this they promote open communication that can help them in building effective internal relationships. When the team is having positive relations then only the team is motivated to work effectively otherwise due to lack of communication and lack of better relations between the employees are unmotivated and this increases the high employee turnover. It can be said that the communication is significant for building a team with highly motivated employees who can deliver better work in the organisation and better productivity as well (Obi, 2018).

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

This research project had focused on one of the most important research topics on the context of the businesses. In the highly competitive business environment, it had become significant for the businesses to have effective talent management strategies in the organisation. Managing the talented employees had become important for the businesses as they are an important resource for the firm. In the introduction section the background and the aim and objectives were clearly mentioned. The literature review had provided an detailed knowledge related to the diverse factors that are influencing the motivational level of the employees in the workplace. It can be said that these sections had created an effective background for the research topic that explains the different factors related to the research topic in detail.

The research methodology is an important section of the researchwhich can elaborated all the different research tools and strategies used by the researcher for conducting the research. It can be said that the researcher had used effective research methodology for the study and had collected high quality data for the research study. Also, the researcher had selected the best method for the research as per the present pandemic situation. It can be concluded that the researcher had selectedeffective research method that had helped them in conducing high-quality research and considering all the ethical considerations as well.

The findings and data analysis section had interpreted and analysed the data in an effective manner. On the basis of the results of the research study it can be concluded that it is important for the businesses to understand the link or the relationship between the employee motivation and productivity of the company.M&S is having effective strategies for motivating the employees in an effective manner. And they are also offering better rewards, benefits and incentives for motivating the employees. From this study it can be said that the organisations operating in the retail sector needs to focus on having an effective workplace for that they needs to motivate the employees so that they can deliver better performance. Employers needs to focus on investing better capital in offering rewards to their employees for enhancing the productivity of the company.

On the basis of the research study it can be concluded that M&S should focus on having effective strategies for motivation. The employer should focus on developing strategies that can help them in working on different factors that can help them in motivating employees through both the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The case company should focus on offering both financial and non-financial rewards to their employee as they would help them in motivating all the employees.

The leader of M&S needs to make use of effective motivational theories or models such as Maslow’s theory of motivation, Two factor theory, Vroom expectance theory, Adam equity theory and many more. If the company would make use of any of the motivational theory then it would help them in motivating the employees and increasing their overall efficiency as well. Also the company should focus on building better team that promotes better cooperation, communication and collaboration among the employees of the company. This would help them in increasing employee engagement and belongingness towards the employer and workforce as well. Thus, it can be said that it is important for businesses to understand that that employee motivation is having an influence on all the different business operations and talent management as well. Also these factors are having an impact on the productivity of the company so it can be said that M&S should work on employee motivation for enhancing their productivity.
