TASK 1: Business Studies With Foundation Year Assignment

Article Extract

Detailed analysis showed that the connection between job satisfaction and organisational performance was stronger than the connection between organisational performance and job satisfaction. It could be stated that job satisfaction more strongly determines organisational performance than organisational performance determines job satisfaction. To support this claim, the research results of this article showed that there was an impact of the majority of job satisfaction factors on organisational performance. This is logical, considering that organisational success is something that workers generally have no opportunity to concretely realise or directly feel the positive effects of. Successful companies are not obliged to give employees any additional benefits or benefits arising from organisational success. In fact, workers often receive the same salary and other forms of compensation, regardless of how much a company is successful. This argument may explain the weak relationship between organisational performance and job satisfaction.

Premise [Explicit] Job satisfaction creates the utmost impact on the organisational performance. When employees are satisfied, they perform their tasks in an effective manner.
Premise [Explicit] Despite the success of the business, the organisation prefers to give the same salary and compensation to workers.
Premise [Explicit] Job satisfaction factors such as rewards, compensation, career opportunities and so on create a positive influence on job performance.
Premise [Implicit] Organisations require focusing on enhancing job satisfaction to improve performance. It contributes to stimulating employee motivation, retention, loyalty and engagement. As a result, workers perform their practices in an effective manner.
Conclusion 1 Conclusively, authors point out that job satisfaction can create an impact on organisational performance. However, organisation performance does not create any kind of impact on employees' job satisfaction.
Premise [Explicit] Companies that perform effectively only focus on their profitability rather than employees' satisfaction.
Premise [Implicit] Organisations should implement such types of policies and procedures that can positively impact job satisfaction.
Premise [Explicit] Job satisfaction is linked with employee satisfaction, and therefore, job satisfaction motivates employees to do better.
Premise [Implicit] The needs of employees require prioritisation for enhancing their job satisfaction.
Premise [Explicit] Organisational performance can be determined by the extent of job satisfaction within the companies.
Conclusion 2 However, it is argued that companies' success does not impact job satisfaction. However, employees prefer such workplaces that are successfully well-established. Therefore, it cannot be said that organisational success does not influence job satisfaction. The major aspect aligns with the policies and procedures of companies that impact job satisfaction levels. If an organisation focuses on employee flexibility, then it is going to impact job satisfaction levels.

My blog post

In order to appraise the article, I will use the University of Leeds [2019] Model. In this article I have witnessed interesting insights related to the influence of communication technology on the success of small businesses. The study by Jorgensen et al. (2022) emphasised the importance of advanced communication technologies that can enhance the operations of small businesses. The article has effectively presented information by supporting it with authentic information. Business failure can be due to different factors, but when it comes to small businesses, then the foremost barrier proves to be lack of resources and advancement. A business limitation concerned with the ineffective ability to utilise the information that can support increasing the customer base. In the current era, it has become essential for small businesses to adopt online communication technologies such as company websites, social media platforms and e-mailing.

The constant and consistent update on the company's website can result in attracting consumers. However, small business owners have limited knowledge in this context, and this impacts their ability to perform the online practices. Further, small business owners perform varied roles due to which they face time constraints, and they do not have time to focus on online communication methods. There is a need to recruit employees who can look upon online communication technologies. This led to support in enhancing the operations of business and further contributes to gaining effective outcomes. Hence, the author has effectively summarised the benefits of implementing communication technologies along with the barriers faced in this context. This blog post led to the development of significant insights related to the impact of technology on the success of small businesses.

Peer comment 1

This is an effective analysis you have presented the arguments of the author, which makes it more subsequent. Have you researched other arguments in relation to this subject, as this can act as a strong basis?

Peer comment 2

This seems like a good appraisal, and you have selected an interesting topic. I suggest you be more critical during your analysis; emphasis should be made on the communication technologies' drawbacks as well.

My response

Thank you for the feedback. I have taken the Jorgensen et al. (2022) article as a primary source and only focused on constructive arguments presented by the author. However, I will research other arguments as well for enhancing the efficacy of appraisal. Furthermore, I will focus on undertaking critical analysis, and accordingly, positive and negative domains will be focused on.

TASK 3

The tool I will continue to use for enhancing my critical thinking is Implicit and Explicit reasoning. These premises articulate the differences that exist between what the author is saying and what the author might be implying. While reading a text, it is important to focus on implicit premises by considering explicit premises (Ellis and Roever, 2021). It supports focusing on the contextual information that is important to be understood. This tool will enable me to understand the meaning of text, and I can further apply this understanding in another context as well. Another tool which has been used by me during this assessment is the University of Leeds Model. This provides a structured framework to learners for critically demonstrating an academic writing piece (University of Leeds, 2019). It is intended to encourage a critical questioning approach and focuses on in-depth evaluation. Similarly, I have focused on undertaking an in-depth evaluation of the article. I will continue to use this model so I can enhance my critical thinking. This will enable me to undertake a critical approach in an effective manner, which is essential for gaining desired outcomes.

SMART Targets

  1. I will practise implicit and explicit premises on any of the text I will read between 20th November and 20th December.
  2. For gaining an effective understanding of author reasoning, I will employ the University of Leeds model on the article I read between 16 November and 30 November.
  3. I will write a critical reflection on the process, and accordingly, I will identify my own strengths and areas of improvement with regard to the implication of the model.

Thus, the above-mentioned SMART targets will enable me to enhance critical thinking skills, which is an essential aspect that contributes to academic, personal and professional development. Therefore, I will specifically focus on this area so that effective outcomes can be gained and I can become able to develop critical thinking abilities.
