Summary of the chosen strategy and reflection
Nike is an American leading sportswear and equipment company that operates all over the world. It has analysed that Nike highly focuses on the marketing strategies and firm’s ‘Just Do It’ have become cultural movement. Through market analysis, it has identified that the company requires changing its strategies to stay competitive in the market. There are some strategies that can be utilised by the Nike such as; competitive pricing strategy, digital marketing/social media marketing and celebrity endorsements and event sponsorships (Schnittka et al, 2023). The final strategy that has been chosen after discussion with team members is celebrity endorsements and sponsorships. They are kind of marketing strategies in which the company associates with the celebrity in order to promote a brand and its products or services in the market. Endorsements leverage the power or influence of celebrities in order to establish trust, advertise products and build direct relationships. On the other side, sponsorship encompasses supporting events or firms to improve brand visibility via association.
During project, a thorough research was conducted which helped to know that the chosen strategy would help the Nike to boost the competitive advantage in this complex business environment. Nike can associates with the celebrities who will promote and market the Nike products by highlighting its benefits through the means of events, social media platforms and online platforms. A report says that celebrity endorsements marketing strategy has been raised all over the world and leading firms are collaborating with the celebrities to promote the products and services. Based on the survey which was conducted in the year of 2024, approximately 45% of Generation Z customers as well as 33% Millennials buy products recommended by the celebrities and influencers (Yltävä, 2025). This marketing strategy can help the firm to develop added-value for the customers and grab the attention of more customers towards the company. Celebrities will tell about the brand and benefits of products in an attractive and engaging way that easily convince the customers to buy the Nike’s products.
Through collaborating with the celebrities, the company can differentiate brand from its competitors. Source credibility theory says that effectiveness of the message based on the trustworthiness, perceived proficiency and source attractiveness (Umeogu, 2012). Align with the source credibility theory, the Nike can collaborate with right celebrity to influence people for buying first-hand quality products instead of second hand products. Through market analysis, it has been identified that many people are buying the second-hand clothing which can develop threats for Nike. In addition, Nike can sponsor famous athletes, teams and sports events which in turn help in increasing brand awareness and make emotional connection with the people. By sponsoring the world famous sports persons or athletes, the company can get access to their international fans which ultimately enhance sales and thereby build competitive advantages.
Teamwork and Decision-Making Process
It was a group task and all team members collaborated effectively throughout the project that contributed in the successful completion of the task. We started the project through clearly defining the topic and problems. After that all team members divided the roles, responsibilities and tasks based on strengths and skills of each person so that members do not get confused about their role. I and my team members communicated with each other to discuss about the problems (Klonek and Parker, 2021). All members were allowed to ask for help when they had any difficulties to solve the tasks instead of doing wrong things. During the project, each group member presented their opinions, perspectives and ideas to solve the particular problem and try to complete the tasks on time. Both in-person meetings & discussions and online platform were utilised to connect as well as collaborate with each other. Online platform allowed us to prioritise and discuss which facilitated to make the informed decisions regarding project.
For collaboration, we all group members encouraged each other throughout the project to provide the new ideas. We encouraged honest and open communication in order to figure out the different angles and comprehend the possible outcomes. We read books, journals and newspapers to collect the relevant information regarding Nike’s marketing management. Online resources were also utilised to gather the latest marketing related data (Li et al, 2024). For evaluation of the solutions, we utilised SWOT analysis process which involves both internal and external factors like strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. The tool helped us to compare the different options and evaluated them against set objectives. Agreement of all team members on one option is most crucial in any project. All the team members were asked which solution would be most suitable. This process helped us to choose best one that facilitated us to complete the project successfully and effectively.
Reflection and Lessons Learned
The team project was great experience for me as it helped me in gaining the different knowledge and competencies. If I was to redo the project, I would not revised the chosen strategy. In my opinion celebrity endorsements and sponsorships would be the best strategy for Nike and I would keep this strategy. The reason behind choosing the strategy was that Nike is a well-established and renowned athletic footwear and clothing company. The company sells the products at premium prices and highly famous among the high class people. Therefore, the company has the ability to make partnership with the celebrities and influencers who can use their popularity and promote the products among target customers (Wang and Liu, 2022). The firm can leverage their experience and knowledge and associates with the famous sports persons that easily grab the attention of people who like branded sports shoes, apparel and other accessories. Referring this, it can be stated that the selected strategy would be beneficial for the company.
In terms of team collaboration, communication and decision-making, there are few things I would do differently. I learned the value of regular monitoring and observation. In this project, we often avoided the evaluation which prevents us to make correction in the existing procedure. Further, I would use establish online communication tools such as; instant messaging, video conferencing and other collaboration platforms to regularly connect with the team members (Glushchenko, 2025). Online communication tools helps in increasing the engagement in the work and team members can easily coordinate with each other and share information. In terms of decision-making, I would use two to three options and select the suitable solutions from them to resolve the problems. If in any case, the chosen solution does not work then I can choose alternative solution to the problem.
Throughout the project I gained new knowledge about different kinds of marketing tools, theories and methods which often utilised by the companies. I learned how different marketing tactics work differently. The project helped me in improving my communication skills. While solving the activities, I used my communication skills to discuss about the project and give unique ideas. I also actively listen to other’s opinions which helped me to enhance my active listening skills. The project also provided me a chance to improve my problem-solving skills. I personally faced few problems in this group activity. When I had to solve the complex tasks, I felt difficulties in managing my time. Due to the lack of time management ability, sometimes I could not complete the tasks timely. Then, I used time blocking method which helped me in dividing daily tasks and prioritizing activities (Wolters and Brady, 2021). Further, I identified that I have lack of emotional intelligence skills. I felt difficulties to control my emotions and thoughts which in turn increased stress and affect my performance as well as efficiency. My team members helped me to enhance my emotional intelligence ability. Whenever, I felt stressed due to tasks, they motivated me. It assisted me a lot to improve my capability and control thoughts even in the complex situation.
However, team encountered the three major challenges during the decision-making process. Time constraints: Although, we managed our time in an effective manner but sometimes we all team members faced issues regarding the same. In starting limited time for some tasks created pressure on us and we made the decisions in hurry without systematic evaluation of options. After that we gave more time to complex tasks and less time to simple tasks that facilitated us to make informed decisions by detailed evaluation. Lack of communication: We faced the communication related issues in our decision-making process that impacted our decisions. Lack of communication with some members created the situation of misunderstanding among the team members. This in turn led to confusion and poor decisions (Demırdağ, 2021). After that our mentor provided guidance and encouraged all members to actively take part in the decision-making process. Conflicting opinions: It is obvious that different people have different perspectives and mind-set. In the project, team members also had different values and ideas that produced the problems of disagreements. This slows down the decision-making procedure and impact overall work. Whenever there were conflicts among team members we communicated with each and try to understand diverse opinions. We also took suggestions from our mentor to solve the conflicts and do work cooperatively. Ultimately, concerned project has made significant contribution in my learning and knowledge.
